Henry Schein Dental supports the Refugee Outreach Programme 2023 and holds a two-day emergency dental care initiative

Henry Schein Dental joined forces in March for two days with Dentaid and Asylum Link Merseyside to help up to twenty refugees in Liverpool with their oral health.

The successful delivery of the Refugee Outreach Program was a result of a close partnership from all parties, who worked together to promote and book the emergency appointments, organised sign ups and provided the required dental material to help the refugees.

Treatments were carried out by clinical volunteers in a mobile dental hub, a bus provided by Dentaid and   financed by Henry Schein Cares for the two days, in order to provide attendees on site with free oral health check-ups and any necessary dental procedures.

“Moving to the UK in 2006 from a small town in Iraq, to reunite with my refugee father, I immediately fell into a state of gratitude for the things that became easily accessible to me. As a Henry Schein team member, I wanted to help in some way. I began discussing with the Henry Schein Cares team in the UK to build the Refugee Outreach Project with the help of Dentaid,” said Belan Saied, Sales Development Representative at Henry Schein One and the driving force for the Refugee Outreach Programme. “After a year of planning, we visited Asylum Link Merseyside, where we were supported by the staff to assist refugees in the area with emergency dental issues. We were able to see patients that have never had any access to dental care or were suffering with severe dental issues.”

“I have two lasting images in my head: one was of a service user with his arm around our interpreter as he exited the van, saying thank you repeatedly, and the other was of a patient high-fiving one of our staff after his treatment. For people who society largely regards as disposable, this not only helped with their health care, but showed what a caring and compassionate bunch we can be when we put our minds to it – it helped people from top to bottom. Thanks again.” said Ewan Roberts, Centre Manager for Asylum Link Merseyside.

“It has been an amazing experience that we were happy to support. It was a pleasure to join forces with Asylum Link Merseyside and Henry Schein to make of this fantastic project a great success,” said Sarah Hutchins from Dentaid.

The Refugee Outreach Programme was supported by team members of Henry Schein Cares, the company’s global corporate social responsibility programme. It stands on five pillars: empowering team Schein to reach their potential, advancing health equity and expanding access to care for underserved communities, accelerating environmental sustainability, strengthening, and diversifying our supply chain, and maintaining strong ethical governance. Health care activities supported by Henry Schein Cares focus on four main areas: (1) wellness, treatment, prevention, and education; (2) capacity building; (3) emergency preparedness and disaster response; and (4) health system strengthening.

Henry Schein Dental announces refreshed ACCLEAN brand

Henry Schein Dental has announced the refreshed ACCLEAN brand, a comprehensive line of products for all stages of preventive care, distributed exclusively through Henry Schein, featuring a colour-coded, three-stage packaging system to help dentists and dental hygienists stay organised. The products will be gradually rolled out in the new livery from March/April 2023.

The refreshed ACCLEAN branding was developed based on direct feedback from dental professionals to further reflect the high quality of the ACCLEAN products. The enhanced packaging helps dentists and hygienists quickly and easily identify the products they need through three colour-coded stages of care:

  • Clean and Polish: Fundamental prevention products used during routine hygiene visits and consults;
  • Treat and Protect: Products that promote and sustain oral care after a visit; and
  • Home Care: Products dentists and hygienists need to help support patients’ daily oral wellness at home.

“The refreshed ACCLEAN brand was designed to help simplify the day-to-day operations of dentists and dental hygienists, allowing them to spend more time focusing on patient care,” said Patrick Allen, responsible for Henry Schein’s Dental Commercial Development – EMEA. “At Henry Schein, our goal is to provide our customers with products and solutions they can rely on. Therefore, we enhanced the look and feel of ACCLEAN, which now better reflects the quality of our products, and we are pleased to present dentists and hygienists with this comprehensive line of high-quality, high-value products for all stages of preventive care.”

Henry Schein UK champions sustainable business practices with the launch of Practice Green

This new initiative encourages health care professionals to adopt a greener business approach and a shared commitment to environmental sustainability

Henry Schein Dental and Optident, a Henry Schein company, have announced Practice Green, an international initiative designed to encourage practitioners, practice teams, and dental laboratories to become more eco-friendly and to help empower the health care community to establish sustainable practices for a healthier planet.

According to the World Health Organisation, between 2030 and 2050, climate change is expected to cause approximately 250,000 additional deaths per year from malnutrition, malaria, diarrhoea, and heat stress. Nurses [and other health care professionals] can be instrumental in communications with patients and families, working with hospitals and health systems to reduce emissions and influencing the adoption of strategies to better prepare the health care facilities and communities for the health impacts of climate change, as stated in a report by PubMed.gov.

Practice Green by Henry Schein aims to offer customers solutions that will help to implement practical ways to become more sustainable, while following the current health and safety legislation and continuing to provide high-quality patient care. A selection of environmentally friendly products and solutions will be available, as well as services and support to help create greener practices and enhance environmental sustainability efforts.

A product provided in the Practice Green portfolio has been carefully selected by Henry Schein as ‘green’ based on the marketing information provided by the supplier partner for the product that it is either reusable, contains recycled materials, can be recycled or are biodegradable, or are from a sustainable source.

“We are pleased to present Henry Schein’s Practice Green programme for our customers throughout the EMEA region and soon beyond,” said Andrea Albertini, President, International Distribution Group, Henry Schein. “As a global distributor of health care solutions, we support health care professionals and the journey towards enhancing environmental sustainability.”

“Practice Green embodies Henry Schein’s commitment to offer customers the latest, innovative products and solutions that help enhance efficiency, optimise care delivery, and provide high-quality patient care,” added Mr. Albertini. “Through this programme, we advance our commitment to meeting the needs of our customers who are concerned about the environmental impact of their practice or laboratory. We strongly believe that the actions we take today will help protect the earth and our natural resources as well help build a healthier world for all.”

The programme starts in January and will continue to expand over time, with new products, services, and solutions added as Practice Green evolves with the ever-changing health care landscape.

Practice Green aligns with Henry Schein’s commitment to mitigate its impact on the climate, reduce waste to landfills, and recycle and reuse materials, while practicing smart and efficient use of energy and water resources. The company is continuously strengthening its approach to measuring, monitoring, and reporting on its carbon emissions and other environmental impacts. BioHorizons Camlog helps collect more than £10,000 worth of items for Naomi House & Jacksplace

Efforts will help to support children and young adults in hospice

BioHorizons Camlog, a Henry Schein company, is helping individuals in need by collecting more than £10,000 worth of items for Naomi House & Jacksplace, hospices supporting life limited and life threatened children, young adults, and families from central southern England*.

To secure the donations, the BioHorizons Camlog team participated in a “charity hustle,” an event organised by the corporate fundraising team at Naomi House & Jacksplace that challenges employees to work together by using their communication skills to acquire as many much-needed items as possible for the hospices.

The teams were split into two and given a list of essential items, both for the individuals in hospice and for prizes at future fundraising events. They contacted local shops and businesses, in-person, over the phone, and via email, to gather contributions. With each item allocated a set number of points based on its value or worth to the charity, the teams competed for the most points.

Over 80 items were acquired in one afternoon by the BioHorizons Camlog teams, including hospitality tickets to Liverpool F.C., Tottenham Hotspur F.C., and the British Grand Prix Moto GP 2023 – each to be used for fundraising. Other items included sensory and wellbeing products, arts and crafts, and toys and games for the care floor and families staying at the hospices.

“It has been an absolute pleasure to partner with BioHorizons Camlog, who have been supporting our hospices since 2014,” said Ella Clayton, Senior Fundraiser at Naomi House & Jacksplace. “It was brilliant to work with such a dedicated team who gave up their time to take part in this event and to help secure much-needed donated items for our charity. Thank you to everyone involved – you have truly gone above and beyond, and we are so grateful for your continued support.”

This initiative aligns with Henry Schein Cares, Henry Schein’s corporate social responsibility programme. Henry Schein Cares stands on five pillars: empowering Team Schein to reach their potential, advancing health equity and expanding access to care for underserved communities, accelerating environmental sustainability, strengthening, and diversifying our supply chain, and maintaining strong ethical governance. Health care activities supported by Henry Schein Cares focus on four main areas: (1) wellness, treatment, prevention, and education; (2) capacity building; (3) emergency preparedness and disaster response; and (4) health system strengthening.

“Our team enjoyed participating in the ‘charity hustle’,” said Naomi Pleasants, Marketing Manager, BioHorizons Camlog, UK. “It encouraged team building and healthy competition, all whilst supporting a great cause. At BioHorizons Camlog, we believe that every person is as important as the next and giving back to individuals in our community is extremely important to us.”
