Participants will experience an innovative and yet scientifically proven implant design and efficient digital implant workflows from data capturing to the final prosthetic restoration – finally coming together in one smart procedure.

Comfort with new products based on well-known procedures

Dentsply Sirona Implants presents DS PrimeTaper, a self-tapping implant with a tapered design that can be inserted safely and easily. This enables long-term bone stability. The double thread allows the implant to be inserted quickly and safely. A simple drilling protocol, with only a few different drills, supports the workflow.

Dentsply Sirona worked closely with the global implant key opinion leader community, and they have already started gaining experience with the product. Their reactions have been very positive:

Dr. Dan Butterman, dentist from Centennial, Colorado (USA), emphasizes the importance of a seamless workflow. “DS PrimeTaper represents the next step in implant dentistry. The digital-driven workflow results in higher accuracy, repeatability of processes, and time savings.” Butterman adds, “My patients have better things to do than spending time in my office. Thanks to clearly defined processes and digital solutions, I can offer safer and faster treatment options which my patients appreciate. That’s what efficiency is all about!”

Dr. Martin Wanendeya, dentist from the United Kingdom, notes that “DS PrimeTaper as a part of an integrated concept is different from what we knew before. In addition to reducing chair time and simplifying collaboration with my laboratory, Primescan for Atlantis suprastructures ensures aesthetic predictability and a perfect fit.”

Dentsply Sirona is about intelligent concepts that work intuitively and improve the predictability of treatment to enable clinicians – specialists and general practitioners alike – to focus on what they do best: creating healthy and beautiful smiles. The idea of a connected and seamless solution is transformative in digital implant dentistry and is a first, essential step towards building an exciting future focused on the needs of our implant customers and their patients.

Seamless concept for transforming digital implant dentistry

“Dentsply Sirona is about intelligent concepts that work intuitively and improve the predictability of treatment,” said Dr. Terri Dolan, Chief Clinical Officer at Dentsply Sirona. “Our goal is to enable clinicians, including both specialists and general practitioners, to focus on what they do best – creating healthy and beautiful smiles. We are confident that we are building a winning future in the area of implant solutions focused on the needs of our implant customers and their patients. Our connected and seamless concept for transforming digital implant dentistry is a first, essential step in this direction. Our vision for digital implant dentistry will be supported by a global clinical education program focused on end-to-end digital implant workflow solutions to achieve clinic, technical and practice excellence. The extensive curriculum is designed to build clinicians’ digital implant skills according to their level of experience and personal learning preferences. These include online education and personalized learning, as well as more than 50 state-of-the art Dentsply Sirona Academy education centers around the world.”

Start of clinical and registry study at Dentsply Sirona World

In cooperation with the McGuire Institute (iMc), two levels of evidence will be covered: The basis is provided by a prospective, multicenter, clinical study evaluating the complete digital workflow including 10 private practice investigators and their referrals for a five-year follow-up.

In addition, an ambitious registry study has been initiated aiming to involve more than 500 clinicians, placing over 2.500 implants for long-term follow-up. The beauty of a registry study is to obtain long-term clinical data without being prescriptive or having a specific endpoint. Therefore, it’s a powerful tool to create scientific evidence and market insights from the daily use of the product by the clinician. Both the clinical trial and the registry will collect “Real World Evidence” which is now recognized by the FDA as being the standard in collecting data and is meaningful to clinicians and patients alike.

International iF Design Award for Axeos 3D/2D X-ray system

Axeos, the versatile 3D/2D extraoral imaging solution from Dentsply Sirona, recently received the international iF Design Award. The 98-member international jury recognized the device primarily for its form and functionality – in these categories the product achieved the best ratings. Axeos provides general practitioners and specialists with a hybrid system that covers a wide range of dental indications and meets modern imaging requirements: sharp images with the lowest possible dose, various selectable volumes and intuitive operability.

The new extraoral imaging system from Dentsply Sirona, Axeos, has been awarded another prestigious design prize. In 2020, the imaging device received the esteemed Red Dot Award for product design. In 2021, Axeos has received another award by the international iF Design Award. In their evaluation, the 98-member international jury awarded points for the product idea, form, function, distinctiveness and utility. Axeos received superior marks in all areas. The jury members were particularly impressed by its form and functionality, which leads to an increased quality in performance and treatment comfort.

“We are very delighted to receive this award,” said Niels Plate, Group Vice President, Digital Devices & Solutions at Dentsply Sirona. “It confirms our goal of offering our customers solutions that stand for high clinical safety, patient comfort and efficient treatment processes. A successful form and functionality of the device contribute to this.”

Imaging solution for general practitioners and specialists

As a modern imaging solution, Axeos offers excellent image quality in 2D and 3D, flexible volumes, seamless connection to Sidexis 4 software as well as to numerous treatment programs. In addition, several features focus on maximum patient comfort: positioning aids (e.g. unique auto-positioner with patented occlusal bite block, automatic temple width measurement, smart height adjustment) support in rapidly achieving the optimum alignment for the image. Lastly, lighting concepts like ambient light create a more pleasant, calming atmosphere for patients.

With Axeos, both classic standard panoramic exposures – which is especially good for children – and extraoral bite wing exposures can be taken. If desired, Axeos can be equipped with a cephalometric arm (left or right) that can be retrofitted at any time. This versatility also convinces users. Dr. Neal Patel, dentist and owner of the Infinite Smiles clinic in Powell, Ohio, says: “Axeos gives us all the X-ray diagnostic options we need. Both temporomandibular joints can be displayed in one image, we receive information about the airways, and we can take HD images when it comes to special endodontic aspects. The low-dose mode further expands the range of indications.” This makes Axeos an imaging solution particularly beneficial to clinicians in various disciplines.

Awarded in Germany since 1953, the iF label is a reliable sign of good design for both consumers and the design community.

Young dentists all over the world are committed to the beauty of a radiant smile with both their passion and their skills. Dentsply Sirona’s Global Clinical Case Contest recognizes particularly talented dental students.

Dr. Terri Dolan, Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer at Dentsply Sirona, welcomed the finalists live to the awards ceremony.

The best representatives in their categories were honored by a international panel of three judges led by Prof. Dr. Rainer Seemann, Vice President Global Clinical Research and Scientific Support at Dentsply Sirona, and the internationally renowned dentists and university professors Prof. Ian Cline (UK) and Prof. Gaetano Paolone (Italy).

And the third place was jointly awarded to Lizhong Sun, Sichuan University, China, and José Muñoz Peñalver, Universidad Católica San Antonio in Murcia, Spain.

Participants document their successful treatments in the form of text and images. They are supported by a tutor from their university. For direct restorations in the anterior and posterior region, the complete restorative product range from Dentsply Sirona is available free of charge to participants.

This year’s competition attracted over 390 students from 91 universities around the globe. In total, more than 5,500 students from recognized dental schools worldwide have participated over the years.

The worldwide finalists will receive a copy of the textbook “Direct Restorations in the Posterior Region” – co-authored by Prof. Paolone. The three best-placed participants will be presented with an award. The students also enjoy recognition from the professional world, with the competition always receiving a high degree of attention in the international dental press.

Each supplier will work with its Global Category Manager to learn how to meet the criteria and compete against other suppliers to win. Official nominations will be submitted in early Q2, 2022 and winners will be announced that June. The competition is open to all Dentsply Sirona suppliers.

“The Supplier Awards Program is a great opportunity to build strategic partnerships with our suppliers, align our goals, and recognize outstanding performance,” said Joanne Couture.

Dentsply Sirona acquires assets of Propel Orthodontics

Dentsply Sirona has acquired substantially all of the assets of Propel Orthodontics, including the VPro device and the Fastrack Mobile App. Propel Orthodontics is a leading innovator, manufacturer, and worldwide seller of orthodontic devices. Propel Orthodontics offers in-office and at-home orthodontic solutions to dentists and their patients. The acquisition is an important step for Dentsply Sirona to further strengthen its position in the fast-growing clear aligner market. The acquired product lines perfectly complement the Byte® and SureSmile® businesses.

The acquisition of the assets of Propel Orthodontics will open up significant opportunities for Dentsply Sirona to drive innovation in the field of clear aligner and orthodontic treatment. The products lines Dentsply Sirona is acquiring are a key differentiator as they improve treatment times and patient comfort. They also add digital capabilities to Byte and SureSmile to improve patient engagement and treatment monitoring.

The at-home High Frequency Vibration (HFV) product line consists of the VPro5®, VPro+™, and VPro™ and supports both active treatment and retention at just 5 minutes per day. When used as part of an orthodontic treatment plan, this easy-to-use device featuring patented high frequency vibrational technology can increase patient comfort and may reduce overall treatment time significantly. Moreover, following the acquisition, Dentsply Sirona will continue to enhance the VPro Fastrack App, which helps patients and providers remotely monitor the orthodontic treatment plan.

“With the acquisition of the assets of Propel Orthodontics, Dentsply Sirona takes another step to position the company as a leading innovator in the fast-growing clear aligner market. It is the perfect match to Byte, and our SureSmile business, and is also a strong strategic fit with Dentsply Sirona. The acquisition supports innovation in the orthodontics space of Dentsply Sirona as well as the capacity to further invest in the future product development in this area,” says Don Casey, CEO of Dentsply Sirona.

Byte, which was acquired by Dentsply Sirona in December 2020, already includes the VPro product, labeled as HyperByte, in every treatment. Dentsply Sirona will also work on launching new branding as part of the SureSmile portfolio for the professional market after the integration of the assets of Propel Orthodontics and will continue to sell VPro directly to dental professionals.

Patients will benefit from the acquisition as they will have the opportunity to use the VPro product line with more offerings in the future. This contributes to the two companies’ goals of providing more patients with access to simple and comfortable oral care.

Dentsply Sirona and 3Shape announce strategic partnership

Dentsply Sirona, the world’s largest manufacturer of professional dental products and technologies, announced today that it entered into a partnership with 3Shape, a developer and manufacturer of 3D scanners and CAD/CAM software solutions based in Copenhagen, Denmark. The first step of this partnership focuses on a facilitated collaboration between 3Shape’s intraoral scanner 3Shape TRIOS and Dentsply Sirona’s SureSmile Clear Aligners.

As part of their steps to innovate dentistry and lead the digital transformation, Dentsply Sirona and 3Shape have agreed to work on multiple strategic opportunities in order to improve digital dentistry and oral health. In the immediate term, the partnership will focus on a collaboration for better access of TRIOS users to SureSmile Clear Aligners. For 3Shape, the new partnership means an additional service to its customers: “3Shape’s goals and solutions are based on an open ecosystem philosophy and on working together with other companies to provide better and more cost-effective solutions that will benefit clinicians and their patients”, says Jakob Just-Bomholt, Chief Executive Officer of 3Shape. “We’re very excited that TRIOS users can now take advantage of the leading SureSmile Aligners treatment through a smoother workflow.”

The partnership between Dentsply Sirona and 3Shape opens opportunities to develop together in selected areas. The connection from 3Shape’s TRIOS scanner to SureSmile will be improved and streamlined to allow 3Shape customers smoother access to the fast-growing clear aligner system SureSmile. Pioneered by orthodontic specialists, SureSmile Aligners are designed using advanced software to ensure they fit perfectly and deliver the exact tooth movements needed to achieve great results in the shortest possible time. The cloud-based SureSmile Aligner software offers various options for treatment planning and implementation. The 3Shape TRIOS intraoral scanner gives doctors a great starting point for their clear aligner workflow now seamlessly integrated with SureSmile aligner software.

Dr. Terri Dolan, Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer at Dentsply Sirona, is convinced that dental professionals will find this partnership very valuable: “Open platforms and smooth workflows are beneficial for a range of treatment options and add to our core goal of offering clinicians the possibility to work with different workflows and partners.
