Dr Céline Higton is an internationally recognised expert in cosmetic and restorative dentistry. In a recently released GC UK video interview, Céline talks in depth about her four-step methodology for the placement of high quality and durable posterior composite restorations, using only the best techniques and materials.

Always entertaining and informative, Céline explains how restorative dentistry has changed beyond recognition, especially in the last decade, in which there has been what she describes as a ‘seismic shift’ from mechanically retentive to chemically adhesive dentistry.

As a result of this shift, restorative success now relies primarily on the bond between dentine and composite. This means preparation of restorations must be done in a precise sequence, and if these initial steps are not completed correctly, the restoration is certain to fail prematurely.

What’s in store

In the video Céline takes viewers through her step-by-step protocols for the placement of robust and reliable posterior composite restorations – a sequence consisting of precise rubber dam isolation, cavity preparation, matrixing and finally the composite placement itself.

Highlights include:

  • Why Céline is one of the biggest advocates of rubber dam isolation: her reasons for using rubber dam, the importance of clamp size and fit, the benefits rubber dam brings and its place in every day practice.
  • The importance of correct cavity design and preparation to facilitate better matrix and composite placement.
  • Why ‘minimally invasive’ dentistry does not necessarily translate to conserving as much of the tooth as possible.
  • Céline’s protocols for maximising the bond strength upon which chemically adhesive dentistry relies.
  • Dealing with the issue of shrinkage stress by using a fibre-reinforced composite such as GC’s everX Posterior.
  • Why G-ænial Universal Injectable high-strength restorative composite is fast becoming one of Céline’s favourite materials
