Henry Schein and the International College of Dentists (ICD) continued to support a dental team from the United States to perform crucial dental treatment on and provide oral health education for underprivileged children in Chisinau and Baiti, Moldova.

This year’s mission took place in cooperation with the dental clinic at Moldavan University as well as the Diadent dental clinic. Altogether, the five dentists Dr. Jeannie Ginnis, Dr. Burton Horwitz, Dr. Stephen Mackler, Dr. Cheryl Siegel, and Dr. Benjamin Thomas, along with six dental students from the University of North Carolina, USA, and six Moldavan students provided services like fillings, crowns, cleanings, extractions, and sealants to 120 children. In addition, the team taught proper dental procedures to the dental students from Moldavan Dental School to help building capacity in the delivery of health care services.

“The learning that takes place between doctors and students, and the positive impact we have on the oral health of the children is outstanding and cannot be put into numbers,” said Dr. Burton A. Horwitz, DDS, MSD (University of North Carolina).

Henry Schein’s product donation is an initiative of Henry Schein Cares, the company’s global corporate social responsibility programme. Health care activities supported by Henry Schein Cares focus on three main areas: advancing wellness, building capacity in the delivery of health care services, and assisting in emergency preparedness and relief.

The support for the NC Moldavan State Partnership programme is part of Henry Schein Cares’ long-term cooperation with the ICD Global Visionary Fund, which was created to improve the oral health of the public and enhance the profession of dentistry. In addition, Henry Schein is the Global Centennial Sponsor for ICD’s centennial anniversary – “Celebrating the First 100 Years” – that will culminate during the Gala Banquet and International Induction Ceremony at the Tokyu Nagoya Hotel on November 13, 2020.   ”

“Henry Schein Cares aim is to enhance access to care for those in need and to help to build capacity in the delivery of health care. We are happy to support this partnership programme that enhances children’s oral health, raises their awareness for the importance of oral care, and also educate local dental students. It is a perfect fit to our Henry Schein Cares programme,” said Ellie Nightingale, Henry Schein’s coordinator for ICD related donations and one of the founders of Henry’s Angels, a group of volunteers from Henry Schein wishing to give back to the local community. Henry’s Angels was formed in January 2011 and has since then organized more than 40 projects that have included in excess of 400 volunteers working more than 4,000 hours in the United Kingdom, Ireland and South Africa.
