Endodontic microsurgery and computer-guided treatment at the BES Regional Meeting 2023

Dr Paula Villa will be presenting two lectures at the upcoming BES Regional Meeting in November. She shares what delegates can expect from her sessions, and why these topics are so important in endodontics:

“I’ve worked as a professor at Universidad de Antioquia for 20 years, and over the last 10 years I’ve focused my teaching activities on endodontic microsurgery.

“I am convinced that endodontic microsurgery (EMS) is a great alternative when treating lesions of endodontic origin. This is a suitable option if, for any reason, an orthograde approach cannot be carried out, as it can be a good way to delay the loss of the tooth. EMS has evolved over the years and today it is a minimally invasive procedure that shows an over 90% success rate.

“Identifying the way modern tools have expanded the indications of this procedure is the first step in carrying out successful treatments. In my first lecture ‘Endodontic microsurgery: implants can wait’, we will analyse the different scenarios in which EMS can be considered a conservative option when treating endodontic infections, as well as the necessary tools and techniques to achieve this. This session will encourage delegates to open their minds and think outside the box.

“Advances in dentistry have led us to implement computer-guided techniques with such a level of accuracy that, today, it allows us to reach the most challenging anatomical areas in a safer and more conservative way. In my second lecture ‘Guided Endodontic Microsurgery: approaching challenging cases’, we will discuss different aspects of guided endodontic microsurgery based on scientific literature and clinical experience. This will allow delegates to learn the positive impact that technology has on this type of treatment, as well as the way it facilitates the preservation of natural teeth.

“Having attended these lectures, delegates will recognise the many different indications for performing EMS, and the main steps to achieve success, as well as the benefits of incorporating digital tools when planning the different procedures.”

The BES Regional Meeting is due to take place 17-18 November 2023 at the International Convention Centre, Belfast. To find out more about Paula Villas lectures, as well as the other expert speakers delivering sessions this year, please visit our website.
