Get online for this year’s OHC!

The pandemic has been a trying time for everyone. Not only has it brought with it a number of big changes to guidelines and daily workflows, but it has also meant that the traditional methods of gaining CPD, socialising with others in the industry and keeping up to date with the latest developments in the field are not currently appropriate.

As such, The British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy (BSDHT) is pleased to announce that this year’s Oral Health Conference (OHC) will be online and accessible to all!

Due to continuing uncertainty and further changes in regulations, the Society has made the decision to shift the event into an online format. Dental hygienists, dental therapists and students of these professions can, therefore, still access all of the exclusive educational content regardless of where they are and without the need to leave the comfort of their own homes.

This way, the Society hopes to inspire people to continue striving for excellence and developing within their roles, without putting themselves at risk.

Structured to suit you!

It’s little surprise that the last few months have been a hectic time for those returning to practice. As such, the BSDHT have structured this year’s OHC so that it easily fits into work schedules to help ensure professionals don’t miss out.

Live sessions will run on Thursday 26 and Friday 27 of November in the evenings, with a whole day of live sessions taking place on Saturday 28 November as well. This way, professionals can access the content with ease after the working day is done, without having to disrupt their work schedule. Furthermore, any content that you miss will be available to access for 8 weeks following the event in an on-demand library. Using this feature, professionals can catch up on any content that they didn’t tune in to or even re-watch lectures they found particularly interesting and useful.

Educational content tailored especially to dental hygiene and dental therapy

One of the core reasons to visit the OHC has always been its diverse and informative selection of educational seminars and lectures. Now in an online format, this year’s programme of speakers is just as exceptional as ever, with experts from all over the country live streaming lectures on pertinent subjects within the field.

Examples of what to expect include seminars on mental health, bias, indemnity policies, chairside dental nurse assistance and much, much more. These topics have all been chosen especially in reaction to interest gathered from attendees to past events and are an exceptional way to explore some of the most pressing concerns in the industry.

Also, the usual highlights of the poster competition and presentation of the student awards will be available as part of these online sessions, giving everyone the chance to celebrate some of the best ideas in the field and learn of the achievements of some of the up and coming names in the industry – definitely segments not to be missed!

As an added benefit, because these seminars are now in online format, professionals with access to the show can look forward to interactive Q&A sessions and panel discussions – it’s never been easier to have your voice heard and to engage with the sessions you’re joining!

All in all, you can look forward to 8 hours of ECPD as well as lots of exciting educational content, lectures, demonstrations and interactive content that will help you to excel in your career.

Pricings and more

This year, membership tickets are available for the price of £30. The BSDHT has also introduced a new way to access the OHC in 2020 – the team ticket. Priced at £64, this ticket allows the whole team to access the event. As ever, student members can enjoy a further discount to the ticketed price – this year gaining access for just £10.

GDC publishes 2019 registration report

The General Dental Council (GDC) has today published a statistical report detailing the registration of dentists and dental care professionals, providing a snapshot of register data as of 31 December 2019.

The report provides statistics from the GDC Registers, including the total number of dental professionals by title and the equality and diversity profile of the Registers. It also provides annual statistics relating to additions and removals, and the categories of those changes.

In analysis of the data, the regulator says it has identified an under-reporting of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) information by dental professionals, and is calling for professionals to check if their data is complete.

GDC Head of Regulatory Intelligence, David Teeman, said: “Whether dental professionals choose to share this EDI data is entirely a decision for them. However, of course, the more complete our EDI data, the better able we are to identify, explore, understand and respond to potential issues that correlate with EDI across everything the GDC does. It is for this reason that we are going to be talking more about the importance of this over the coming months.”

The full report is available on the GDC’s website.

Henry Schein’s Practice Pink Programme supports Cancer Research UK’s fight against Cancer

Henry Schein Dental UK continues to support the fight against cancer through its Practice Pink programme. By donating a percentage of the company’s sales in October from selected pink products to Cancer Research UK, Henry Schein supports CRUK’s work in research, prevention efforts, early detection of the disease, and improving access to care.

Cancer Research UK wants the survival rate of cancer patients in the UK to be among the best in the world. The organisation focuses their efforts in four key areas – working to help prevent cancer, diagnose it earlier, develop new treatments and optimise current treatments by personalising them and making them even more effective. The organisation’s work is funded solely by donations.

“In close cooperation with our customers and supplier partners, Henry Schein has been able to considerably contribute to the fight against cancer around the globe. As cancer affects us all in the one or other way, we are happy that through Practice Pink and as a team, we come again closer to achieve our shared goal of a cancer-free world,” said Patrick Allen, Managing Director, Henry Schein UK, Ireland, the Nordics and South Africa.

Customers can support the initiative by purchasing a selection of pink products from a comprehensive range of high-quality Henry Schein brand products that meet the company’s high standards to earn the Henry Schein Seal of Excellence and come with a satisfaction-or-money-back guarantee.

Practice Pink is an initiative of Henry Schein Cares, the Company’s global corporate social responsibility programme which has been running for 14 consecutive years. Henry Schein Cares stands on four pillars: engaging Team Schein Members to reach their potential, ensuring accountability by extending ethical business practices to all levels within Henry Schein, promoting environmental sustainability, and expanding access to health care for underserved and at-risk communities around the world.

Along with non-governmental organisations and supplier partners across North America and Europe, Henry Schein is helping dental and medical health care professionals raise awareness and support for a cure for breast cancer and other cancers by offering its customers a range of ‘pink’ products.
