Have you ever been unsure of the type of dental implant historically placed by another dentist in a patient’s mouth? Do you wish you could ask for colleagues’ opinions in a safe and constructive way? Maybe you are looking for unbiased recommendations on a new dental implant system or would like to expand your referral network?

As the dental implant world continues to evolve and adapt to changing patient demands, it’s important for professionals to have access to a trusted source of support. It doesn’t matter if you are new to the field, if you only restore dental implants or if you are an established clinician with experience in a range of surgical techniques. Second opinions can often provide new ideas or confidence that what you’re doing is in the very best interests of your patient.

The Association of Dental Implantology (ADI) understands the pressures faced by dentists and their teams when delivering dental implant treatment today. As such, it offers a myriad of benefits for its members that go some way to address the most common challenges.

The ADI Members’ Only Facebook Group is a fine example. Available exclusively to ADI members, it provides a secure platform for individuals to share cases, ask for advice or demonstrate complex cases with peers. It is a place for discussion and debate, where participants can promote best practice and encourage others. It is a closed group so opinions can be shared without the risk of information being misconstrued by the general public

It also provides a convenient way for members to stay up-to-date on ADI news and industry updates, as it is easily accessible on any mobile device, any time, from any location. In addition, the ADI Members’ Only Facebook Group can be used to find trusted colleagues in different parts of the country when a patient is relocating but requires continued treatment. Further still, posts include useful information on upcoming educational events like ADI Study Clubs, helping individuals to plan their CPD and develop their skills at the same time.

Skill development and face-to-face networking

ADI Study Cubs are another hugely popular member benefit. Sessions are held in the evenings throughout the UK, making them easily accessible. They cover a wide range of topics related to implant dentistry, with many offering CPD accredited learning. Sessions are presented by highly skilled and experienced clinicians who are keen to share their knowledge and help colleagues approach different cases with greater competence and confidence.

However, this isn’t all that ADI Study Clubs offer. These events are just as much about meeting friends and peers face-to-face, and they provide an opportunity to interact with a variety of individuals from different corners of the profession. They enable attendees to socialise with others who share their passions and interests. They are also a chance to expand professional networks and make new connections that could be helpful for future career development or patient referrals. In fact, ADI Study Clubs perfectly complement the ADI Members’ Only Facebook Group, as they offer similar benefits with the added advantage of physical interaction.

Don’t stand alone

The ADI provides many other opportunities that promote talking about dental implantology and meeting new people. These include the biennial ADI Team Congress and ADI Members’ National Forum, as well as ADI Masterclasses and ADI Focus Meetings. The association also lists external courses that may be of interest to those in the dental implant arena on its website.

Ultimately, the ADI is a community of like-minded professionals working together to better themselves and the field of dental implantology. With more than 2,400 members, it demonstrates the need for a network of support and offer a solution for all professionals working in the field.

Helen Adams Keller put it perfectly – “Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much.”
