“It’s been a busy month with one thing and another… And you can’t have missed the reaction and the strong opinions in relation to the GDC’s decision to keep the ARF unchanged for 2019, which you’ve probably already read about. But I’m sure many of you will have your own thoughts bubbling under the surface, so please feel free to get in touch with me because it’s interesting to hear what you’re all saying. Elsewhere, and on a slightly lighter note, the news that the Government is now considering funding the (HPV) vaccinations scheme for adolescent boys has been very well received across the profession recently, but many are now calling for a programme to be implemented quickly after a lot of delay and a lot of criticism before getting to this point. This on-going story has highlighted some alarming issues and statistics – especially considering that oral cancer is one of the fastest rising types of cancer, with higher incidence among men – and it’s so surprising that ministers and the JCVI have dragged their heels for so long.
