Claire McCarthy is faculty at NYU College of Dentistry where she is adjunct professor and teaches non-surgical periodontal and implant therapy to postgraduate residents in periodontology and implant dentistry. She will present a refresher session on hand-activated periodontal instrumentation, followed by a question and answer session.

This webinar aims to revise the principles of hand instrumentation to support clinicians who are responsible for the provision of non-surgical periodontal therapy (NSPT) in general practice. This session is designed to take into consideration post covid19 return to work limitations/restrictions on AGP’s and developed to provide a refresher on the key elements of safe and effective hand instrumentation.

At the end of this session, participants will be able to describe the ideal characteristics of hand instruments; differentiate between universal & area-specific micro features; appreciate the benefits of instrument maintenance; know the three A’s of hand instrumentation for increased productivity and effectiveness; understand the factors that influence calculus removal.

Development outcomes:
By the end of the webinar, delegates will have an increased understanding of current hand instrument design and the advantages of modified versions of traditional instruments to achieve improved clinical outcomes.
