Title
Non-operative management of early caries

Summary
In his webinar recorded in 2017, Prof Avijit Banerjee explains the contemporary concepts of minimum intervention and minimally invasive oral healthcare and their importance in modern caries management. This webinar focusses on the non-operative prevention of the caries process and arresting the development of the early carious lesion in enamel. This can be done primarily by the willing patient who is engaged in their personal oral health. Dietary modification, plaque biofilm control / modulation, remineralising agents and surface treatments can be used to regulate the biochemical caries process at the tooth-biofilm interface. Patients’ behaviour change also plays an integral part, with patient-focussed care plans and review consultation intervals tailored appropriately. Prof Banerjee also discusses the potential postgraduate educational opportunities in Advanced MI Dentistry, namely his distance-learning masters programme hosted by the Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences at King’s College London, one of the world leading centres of oral health research and education.
