ADI congratulates Noel Perkins

The Association of Dental Implantology (ADI) would like to congratulate Noel Perkins on winning the top prize at the ADI Team Congress 2023 in the poster competition.

His presentation was entitled “A prospective audit of decemented implant crowns at an implant referral centre” and it explored the prevalence and potential causes of decementation of implant crowns. The judges were impressed with the detail of the study and how the outcomes could be used to enhance daily implant practices.

As part of his win, Noel will be speaking at the upcoming ADI Members’ National Forum, which is an ADI member event designed to share best practice, boost knowledge and enable delegates to network with like-minded peers. It’s just one of the many benefits available for ADI members – to find out more, contact the team today.

ADI President lets his hair down at Congress Dinner raising over £20,000 for charity

The President of the ADI, Amit Patel, teamed up with Wells on Wheels to raise money for this fantastic charity.

At the recent ADI Team Congress, Amit asked for donations in return for cutting his 27+ inches of hair off after several years of growing it out. Donators took to the stage at the Congress Dinner for the big chop which so far has raised over £20,000.

Wells on Wheels is a charity dedicated to making water more accessible to remote communities in India. It raises money to supply water cooler bottles that can be rolled along the ground instead of carried on the head, reducing risk of injury and enabling more young girls to stay in education for longer.

For anyone who wasn’t able to donate on the night and would like to show their support, all donations are very gratefully received on GoFundMe.

“An exceptional event” – ADI Team Congress 2022

The ADI Team Congress 2022 presented a fantastic programme for all members of the dental implant team to enjoy this year. There was a wealth of education presented alongside plenty of opportunities for debate, discovery and networking. The event really did have it all.

Amit Patel, current ADI President, commented:

“This was a fantastic event – after all the delays caused by Covid, it was great to finally be able to meet up with colleagues from across the dental implant field. It’s the perfect place to network and enjoy some time with friends – which I think we have all really missed. Everyone I spoke to seemed to really appreciate the educational programme and I certainly took plenty away that I can use in my own practice. Many congratulations are due to Eimear O’Connell [ADI Immediate Past President] for putting together and presenting such an exceptional event.”

Save the dates for the ADI Team Congress 2023 to enjoy more of the same high-calibre education and fun!

The ADI Team Congress 2023 will be held on 4-6 May at the Birmingham ICC. Visit the website for details in due course. ADI members get significantly discounted rates for all ADI events.

Get involved and review your own dental implant practice with Dr Dominic O’Hooley at the ADI Members’ National Forum

The ADI Members’ National Forum 2021 is just around the corner, offering ADI members exclusive access to a dynamic learning programme and the opportunity for important discussions among colleagues.

Dr Dominic O’Hooley will present one of several 20-minute sessions, designed to deliver golden nuggets of information and inspire delegates to explore further. Regarding his lecture entitled “Use of a Novel Implant Design in Synergy with an Alloplastic Bone Regeneration Material in the Anterior Maxilla and Mandible”, he says:

“I’ll be talking about a new type of implant design with an inverted profile being used alongside alloplastic materials for faster turnover into host bone. The technique may be controversial, but I have seen exceptional results so far and the concept is based on solid scientific principles. It’s important for clinicians to be aware of the latest techniques in order to decide for themselves what might work best for them.

“Regarding the ADI, I would encourage all dentists who restore or place dental implants to be members. The ADI Members’ National Forum is an exciting way to get involved, to review aspects of your own practice and to even consider presenting yourself. It’s also fabulous for networking!”

What do you do when things go wrong? – Dr Bill Schaeffer to share experiences at ADI Members’ National Forum

Dr Bill Schaeffer has worked in dental implantology for over 25 years. He will share his experience of managing patients when things go wrong in a session at the highly anticipated ADI Members’ National Forum this November. He says:

“I’ve placed a lot of dental implants, which means I have seen lots of things go wrong. No matter how good you are or how much experience you have, sometimes bad things will happen. My lecture will discuss five simple steps to deal with patients in these situations so that you can maintain a good relationship and avoid litigation. I will share some of my own cases where things have gone wrong – many that were not my fault and many that were – and show how easy it can be to manage these patients.

“The ADI Members’ National Forum is a great way to gain many small bites of information, with several short, punchy and concise lectures. Sessions are given by ADI members, so it is people talking about real world things happening in their practices right now, ensuring a very relevant programme. It’s also a great way for professionals to start lecturing.”

Guided in the right direction: Dr Karl Walker-Finch will present his findings on guided surgery at the ADI Members’ National Forum

This November, the ADI Members’ National Forum will provide a unique event hosted and attended by ADI members. The event stimulates conversation and discussion amongst likeminded peers, and will cover a variety of topics.

Dr Karl Walker-Finch will present his findings from his 2020 systematic review on guided surgery. He comments:

“For me, my systematic review was born from a fascination for digital implant dentistry.

“Everyone knows that digital dentistry is the future, helping professionals achieve predictable and aesthetic results. I wanted to make sure that the application of surgical guides really does support treatment in the best interests of my patients and so I will be sharing the results, and some interesting addendums, from my systematic review into the subject.

“The ADI has been instrumental to my growth as an implant dentist – the study clubs in particular piqued my interest in the field. They really benefitted me, as I could engage with likeminded colleagues in a structured but relaxed environment. The unique format of the ADI Members’ National will allow more of the same, delivering powerful snippets of information across a range of topics.

“The aim for my lecture is to inspire colleagues to make informed decisions for their patients – whethr that’s by utilising guided surgery or a freehand approach.”

Remember the date – 6th November 2021 – and come and enjoy what our ADI members have to offer!

An event like no other: Aly Virani to speak at ADI Members’ National Forum 2021

Aly Virani, ADI Regional Representative for Wales, will be speaking as part of the ADI Members’ National Forum 2021. About his session, he comments:

“Over the years I have received much advice from colleagues – many from the ADI – about how to manage my clinical role as I travel around the UK to provide referral dental implant services. I wish to share what I have learnt with others.

“As such, my session at the ADI Members’ National Forum won’t be information you could get from a journal – it’s the kind of personal insight you can only access direct from colleagues. I will explore how to identify the right kind of practice to work with in a travelling role, how to deal with paperwork (the new ADI membership benefit with Kiroku is a huge advantage) and how to manage equipment.

“The ADI Members’ National Forum is genuinely my favourite ADI event. I find it extraordinary that it is free to members as there really is nothing else like it. It’s the only event I know of that is exclusively run for and by members. Having gained much from the ADI network, ADI Study Clubs and other activities, this is my opportunity to pass on the knowledge I have gained from peers and I can’t wait.”
