Soft tissue procedures around teeth and dental implants often use similar surgical techniques. However, the biological mechanisms responsible for wound healing are fundamentally different. It is essential to understand the biological principles to select the most appropriate surgical approach and achieve predictable outcomes in the aesthetic zone.
Professor Antonio Liñares is a Professor in Periodontology at the University of Santiage de Compostela, Spain, and maintains a private practice limited to periodontology and implant dentistry. At the ADI Masterclass in November, Professor Liñares will deliver a lecture on “Soft Tissue Augmentation Around Teeth and Implants: What are the Healing Differences?” He details its content:
“The lecture will review the current evidence on soft tissue wound healing around teeth and implants as well as using experimental and clinical data to explain how tissue biology influences graft integration, keratinised tissue formation, tissue stability, and aesthetic outcomes.
“Particular emphasis will be placed on the biological concepts derived from our experimental model investigating keratinized tissue regeneration around teeth and implants, together with their clinical implications for connective tissue grafting and peri-implant soft tissue augmentation. Finally, practical recommendations will be provided to help clinicians optimise treatment planning in the aesthetic zone through biologically driven decision-making.
