A line-up of six renowned speakers is heading to Manchester on Saturday 24 October to deliver a day of lectures aimed at demystifying the basic principles of occlusion, and why they are crucial to the provision of successful, long-term restorations.

The panel of expert speakers at the Introduction to Occlusion Symposium comprises Professor Paul Tipton, Dr Shiraz Khan, Dr Tif Qureshi, Dr Koray Feran, Dr Ken Harris and Dr Tom Bereznicki.

The symposium has been organised by the Tom Bereznicki Charitable Educational Foundation and the College of General Dentistry, to provide professional development in an area of dentistry that is often not fully understood by recently qualified colleagues.

Dr Tom Bereznicki, founder of the dental education charity, explains why there is a need for accessible training on this topic, “As the scope of clinical dentistry expands, for example haptics and digital dentistry, there is ever greater pressure to reduce other topics to accommodate the new ones – occlusion has unfortunately become a victim within the undergraduate curriculum. And yet occlusal harmony of the existing teeth and any restorations placed is of paramount importance to longevity and success.”

The symposium took place in London and Edinburgh last year, with delegates describing the day as ‘eye-opening’, ‘inspirational’ and ‘the best day course I have been on.’ One participant said, “I thoroughly enjoyed it…All the speakers spoke about occlusion in a comprehensive manner that I understood.”

To ensure the event is affordable for younger colleagues, the fee for early career practitioners is heavily discounted to just £90 for the day and there are also a limited number of free places for students.

For other dental professionals, an early bird rate of £175 is available until midnight on Tuesday 26 May, after which the fee will be £225.
