Tempdent is proud to announce the launch of its brand new Dental Reception Excellence Programme (Level 2), a specialist apprenticeship designed to develop confident, capable Dental Receptionists who play a pivotal role in patient experience and practice performance.

Developed following extensive consultation with dental employers and sector experts, the programme has been designed with the dental sector, for the dental sector. It is aligned to the Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner Apprenticeship Standard, enhanced with dental‑specific content that reflects real practice environments, dental patient interactions and industry expectations.

This programme is brought to market by Tempdent, and delivered by Babington (part of the Knovia group alongside Tempdent). Babington is a leading provider of professional services training and apprenticeships with over 50 years’ experience, and a strong track record in customer service and professional skills development across the UK.

The Dental Reception Excellence Programme focuses on supporting dental reception teams to deliver outstanding patient experiences while confidently managing the dental patient journey. Key areas of learning include professional communication, complaint handling, dental terminology and treatment pathways, ethical influencing, compliance, confidentiality, and resilience in fast‑paced reception environments.

Learners will develop the skills to:

  • Deliver a consistently high standard of patient care
  • Manage challenging conversations and complaints with confidence
  • Think commercially and professionally present private options, membership plans and treatment recommendations
  • Gain understanding of organisational policies, relevant dental legislation, and essential internal procedures

The apprenticeship runs over 12 months, with monthly start dates and online delivery, making it accessible for practices across the UK.

As a government‑funded apprenticeship, it offers a cost‑effective way for practices to upskill existing team members or support new entrants into the profession, with funding available for both levy‑paying and non‑levy‑paying employers.

“The Dental Receptionist is the first and last point of contact for patients. This programme has been developed to acknowledge the importance of that role and to give Dental Receptionists the confidence, professionalism and commercial awareness needed to support both patient care and practice success” , Lorraine Nadel, Chief Executive Officer, Tempdent.

A new overview brochure accompanies the launch and is available to download here.
