When you speak to the right person about the right topic, their enthusiasm can often be infectious. This was very much the case when Dr Jaz Gulati was asked about his unique approach to improving communication with patients.

A practising dentist, well-known educator and host of the globally recognised Protrusive Dental Podcast, Jaz shares his passion for the topic:

“Patients rely on their dentists for so much more than we often realise – they have to accept when their clinician identifies issues with their oral health, even if they are completely asymptomatic. To gain their trust and communicate these concerns in an effective way, it’s crucial that we as dentists can demonstrate the value of our services to our patients.

“I initially invested in a loupes-mounted camera as a tool for self-reflection and to support the training courses I run for other professionals. This proved useful but it was nowhere near as exciting as the accidental benefits I discovered along the way.

“Just as recording each treatment workflow allows me to demonstrate and discuss cases in detail with colleagues, the real-time camera feed enables me to communicate more clearly, concisely and effectively with patients. They can see exactly what is happening, which tooth I’m talking about and where the fracture is. I can also share procedural videos to explain recommended treatments, which removes any ambiguity and ensures truly informed consent.

“I didn’t purchase the camera as a sales tool, but it has become a powerful one as it delivers insights into patients’ health. There is a growing trend for capturing more health data among the population, and these videos give patients this data for their oral health. It also encourages trust in their practitioner by removing any doubts they might have otherwise had about their need for treatment, for example. Ultimately, the loupes-mounted camera provides superior communication and the videos are very much the future of dentistry.”

Jaz will bring his enthusiasm to BDIA Dental Showcase in March, where he will present an exclusive hands-on workshop alongside dental therapist and clinical educator Cat Edney. The exciting session will be supported by Admetec, who is also the Official Loupe Partner of the event. Jaz discusses what attendees can expect to gain by attending this Clinical Excellence Workshop:

“Every single dentist will understand the advantages to be enjoyed when the patient can see everything they are seeing. The challenge is how to make this a reality with the right equipment in the right way.

“A lot of the latest technology on the market sounds amazing, but implementing it effectively can be a barrier to success. This workshop will show professionals how to integrate loupe-mounted cameras into their workflow quickly and efficiently. We’ll cover how it feels, how it works, how to make the quality of videos consistent, and how to revolutionise the practice by setting it apart from others. It is also a chance to try leading products first-hand. I’ve used numerous brands, but I choose to work with Admetec because they are so receptive to feedback, constantly meeting clinicians’ needs and providing great support.

“In 10 years’ time, there won’t be a practice not using video in their marketing and patient communications. This is your opportunity to get ahead of the curve and become a pioneer in the field. Join our workshop to get started in a meaningful way.”

This is exactly the kind of inspiration and innovation that BDIA Dental Showcase is all about. The 2026 event will be packed full of unique opportunities to engage with government ministers and the OCDO, as well as hear from exceptional speakers, engage with industry and elevate practical skills in the hands-on workshops.

Jaz adds:

“The availability of these hands-on workshops at BDIA Dental Showcase provides something that is out of the ordinary, with a very unique opportunity to learn. This isn’t done at other events and I think it offers a great way for attendees to really leverage their time and to transform their dentistry. It’ll be the hottest ticket in town!

“BDIA Dental Showcase always has a great buzz about it. The event facilitates connection with trade, which is so important because they are the ones who support us. A visit also means catching up with friends, networking with business associates and more.

“Like many of my peers, I love what I do and I am passionate about constantly improving my dentistry for the benefit of my patients. I believe my approach to communication is a game-changer. Attendees should be ready to have their socks knocked off.”
