The British Orthodontic Society has announced its new Honorary Patron: Consultant Orthodontist and previous BOS President and Chair, Alison Murray.
Alison qualified from University of Birmingham in 1979 and was awarded her DOrth from the Eastman Dental Hospital in 1985 where she stayed until 1993 having become a Consultant Orthodontist. She then moved to University Hospital Derby in 1994 where she continues her work as a Consultant to this day.
The British Orthodontic Society has been a constant in Alison’s career and amongst other roles, she has been Treasurer of the Consultant Orthodontist Group, Treasurer of the Society, Chair and President before demitting in 2017, and Chair of Ethics until 2019.
A well-known international speaker, Alison has a particular interest in orthognathic surgery and has undertaken a great deal of research as well as taking part in randomised clinical trials.
On her new role, Alison commented, “I feel privileged and humbled to be made Honorary Patron for 2026 and will aim to represent the Society with the respect and gravitas it deserves. I would like to work with all my orthodontic colleagues and the entire team on delivering the best possible results for the most important people – our patients. As a specialty, it is vital that we support research and always follow evidence based practice.
“I am looking forward to getting round to all the various BOS meetings and groups, and hearing from BOS members – I very much hope that I can add value and give back to the Society I care about so much.”
