At the British Dental Conference and Dentistry Show, Dr Chinwe Akuonu delivered an engaging motivational talk on behalf of Curaden: ‘Prevention, purpose and passion: the formula to making a real impact in dentistry’.
Chinwe discussed her journey from growing up in Nigeria, to feeding her passion through education in Italy, where she became a dental hygienist – driven by her inspiration to give back to her country through preventative dentistry. During this journey she discovered her purpose and made the decision to study dentistry in London.
Now, as a general dental practitioner, Chinwe deals with a wide range of cases and, having transitioned from dental hygienist to GDP, understands the importance of inclusivity and the dental team being on the same page – for example, offering patients the same advice regarding interdental cleaning.
Her passion for prevention led Chinwe to undertake Curaden’s iTOP training in February – valuing the course for its evidence-based teaching, and for the understanding it gave her about the challenges patients might face when carrying out oral care.
