The smiles are even wider today as a Kendal dentistry practice celebrates a significant industry win.

Crossbank Dental Care, on Captain French Lane, has been named Best Dental Practice at the 2025 Cumbria Business Awards, recognising the clinic’s exceptional commitment to patient care, innovation, green dentistry and community engagement.

Founded in 2001 by Principal Implant Dental Surgeon and Director Dr. Neil Cooper with his wife Bex Cooper, Director and Practice Manager, with a dedication to patient comfort, preventative care, and life-enhancing dental implant treatments, the award underlines the practice’s reputation as one of the region’s most trusted, caring, and forward-thinking dental providers.

To pass the strict judging criteria, practices were required to demonstrate excellence in patient care, staff support and development, sustainability, and innovation in leading techniques and technology, to enhance patient experience, accessibility, and reduce environmental impact.

The judges praised the winners for going beyond clinical excellence to promote dental and environmental health within the local community, including free schools’ dental health education, partnering with Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron to lobby the government on children’s oral health and their ground-breaking “Implant a Tree” initiative, helping restore native woodlands in partnership with the Cumbria Wildlife Trust.

“We are absolutely thrilled to receive this award,” said Neil Cooper, whose commitment to patient care is demonstrated by achieving Dental Phobia certification for over a decade. “It’s a real testament to the hard work, compassion, and professionalism of the entire Crossbank team. Our mission has always been to deliver exceptional care in a warm and welcoming environment, and this recognition means the world to us.”

Rather than resting on their laurels, the award is already spurring Bex and Neil on, investing in specialised ‘Oral Health Educator’ certification for the practice’s dental nurses, and working to extend their sustainable accreditation to ‘B Corp’ certification, which verifies a business meets the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

“From compassionate dental care to safeguarding our environment, we try and see everything we do through the eyes of our neighbours, fellow independent business owners, and everyone we greet through the Crossbank Dental Care doors,” says Neil. “Historically, the UK dental sector has been slow to initiate the good it can do, from reducing waste to empathetic patient understanding; this award not only confirms our path is the right one, but inspire us to lead others along it, too.”
