Corsodyl commemorates its 50th anniversary this year, marking five decades of dedicated innovation and commitment to advancing gum health. Since the launch of its first product in 1975, Corsodyl has established itself as an expert in gum health, developing a range of scientifically formulated products integral to the oral care of patients who suffer with gum problems.
To mark this significant milestone, Corsodyl commissioned research among 2,000 British consumers to explore current attitudes and behaviours towards gum care.
The findings highlight the critical need for enhanced patient education around gum care. Notably, more than half (57%) don’t always think about their gum health when brushing their teeth[1] and almost half (45%) of respondents reported not regularly considering the health of their gums when brushing their teeth[2].
Dr Kate Fabrikant, Medical Affairs Director, Northern Europe at Haleon, said: “The survey shows that we need to continue raising awareness of gum health importance, they are just as essential to our overall oral health as our teeth3. Attention needs to be paid to brushing your teeth and gums for at least two minutes, twice a day with a condition specific fluoridated toothpaste. And considering that around half of the respondents reported some bleeding whilst brushing, we have a lot of work still to do to achieve good gum health in the UK.”
“As Corsodyl celebrates its 50th anniversary, our focus remains on empowering individuals to prioritise their gum health. We urge dental and pharmacy professionals to proactively discuss the importance of comprehensive gum care with their patients, integrating it seamlessly into their oral hygiene education.”
Key research findings highlight areas for professional intervention:
- Over half (55%) of respondents reported experiencing bleeding gums[3], with 29% experiencing this symptom every couple of weeks or more[4].
- 37% of individuals surveyed primarily focus on cleaning their teeth when brushing[5].
- Only 63% brush for the recommended two minutes, and just 26% brush at a 45-degree angle[6].
Corsodyl has a wide range of products to help support consumers with maintaining good gum health. Most recently (June 2024), Corsodyl launched their Gum Strengthen & Protect range comprising of two toothpastes and a daily mouthwash, which are clinically proven to help protect against gum problems with continued twice daily use.
The range supports preventative gum care, that with continued twice daily use, helps to strengthen the gum seal for long-lasting gum protection. Unique for Corsodyl, the product is enriched with hyaluronic acid, a key building block of strong gums.
As Corsodyl embarks on its next chapter with a brand-new look, it reaffirms its commitment to professional collaboration, innovation and excellence in oral care. The brand looks forward to continuing to push the boundaries of gum health education over the coming 50 years.
