Sascha Hein, a Master Dental Technician based at the University of Leeds’ School of Design, will be speaking at the BACD 21st Annual Conference with his lecture “The Truth About Tooth Colour: Measuring, Perceiving and Restoring with Science.” He explains the purpose behind the session:
“Recent advancements in technology have brought renewed focus to tooth colour measurement, but challenges remain – especially when perceived appearance and measured values don’t quite align. Understanding when and why these discrepancies occur is key. In this lecture, we’ll explore the optical principles behind tooth colour appearance and critically examine the performance and limitations of modern shade-matching devices.”
“With this year’s conference theme highlighting ceramics versus composites, we’ll also consider whether their optical differences are as significant as commonly believed. Attendees will gain a practical foundation in colour science – helping to interpret measurement results more effectively and achieve consistent, aesthetic outcomes in restorative work.”
