Peri-implantitis is a well-documented risk factor for implant failure, but occlusion can also play a major part in the longevity of restorative treatment.
Dr Graham Stokes, Chair of the Medical Protection Society, will share the importance of occlusion at the ADI Team Congress 2025, presenting a talk entitled “Occlusion in Implant Dentistry – How Precise is Precise and What’s it all About?” Dr Stokes provides more information:
“A patient’s bite affects their everyday life and implants can impact the entire mouth – we must look at this during the planning process and grow our knowledge on the basic concepts of day-to-day occlusion so that we can lower the risk of implant failure.
“The talk will do this, covering a variety of topics from the use of bite guards and semi-adjustable articulators to reviewing the occlusion long-term post-operatively. Ultimately, the session will emphasise how the design of the occlusion can make life simpler and more predictable for you, your team, and your patient.”
