To provide further support to clinicians and colleagues choosing to practise or working within its network and offer insights to its peers within the wider dental sector, mydentist has launched a new podcast ‘Know the Drill,’ with four pilot episodes now available to stream on Apple, Spotify and Amazon.

Recently surveying over 3,500 clinicians for its ‘Great Place to Practise’ survey, mydentist found that clinicians practising within its network felt they have a good work-life balance and that they are able to develop their potential with the provider.

Building on the survey, mydentist has launched the Know the Drill podcast to extend the support of its Clinical Network to wider industry professionals, in the hopes of encouraging a wider network of peer-to-peer community for clinicians.

Each episode features a thoughtful conversation with a trailblazing clinician or Clinical Development Advisor who is passionate about dentistry and making it one of the most exciting and rewarding career paths to pursue in the UK.

The inaugural episode explores the journey of becoming a mentor at mydentist through an interview with Matt Arnold, Clinical Development Advisor in the North East, who also leads on mentor and mentee support in the North East & Scotland region. Joining Matt on the podcast is Anitha Josie, mentee and Dentist at mydentist Sunderland, and Asad Shah, mentee and Dentist at mydentist within the North East and Scotland region.

Matt, Anitha and Asad explore why they became a mentor/mentee and what this entails, in addition to myth-busting some common misconceptions associated with becoming a mentor or mentee. During the 45-minute episode, Matt, Anitha and Asad also offer their advice to those wanting to become a mentor or mentee, recounting their experiences and discussing how the mydentist mentor and mentee scheme has supported their professional development.

The second episode, ‘Optimising the intraoral scanner in your practice,’ delves into the world of digital dentistry, from why scanning is important to sharing learnings and tips on optimising the intraoral scanner and how practice teams can gain additional support if they are struggling to utilise their scanner. Leading the discussion is Dale Flanagan, Clinical Digital Manager at mydentist, who is joined by Neil Simkin and Jess Patel-Barnes, Clinical Development Advisors at mydentist.

The third and penultimate episode available in the pilot series – ‘Developing a new interest’ – provides insights into how clinicians can approach offering clear aligners to patients, the future of clear aligners and how to know and find the interest that is right for you. During the episode, Rosanna Posl and Ruairi Leonard, Clinical Development Advisors at mydentist, share their experiences of finding their interest, offering insights into how clinicians can find out more about clear aligners and helpful tips on where to receive additional support from peers.

Finishing the series with a holistic approach, the fourth and final episode of the series – ‘How to best maintain your mental and physical wellbeing’ – explores how community and support can make the world of difference to the mental wellbeing of clinicians, whether it’s through finding a strong professional support network or seeking peer-to-peer advice on a one-to-one basis.

Drawing on their personal experiences, Megan Fairhall, Dental Therapist and Dental Hygienist at mydentist Poole, and Charmikha Romesh, Clinician at mydentist Sudbury Hill, discuss maintaining your physical and mental wellbeing, striking a good work-life balance and provide their advice on how to find support through professional communities.

Nyree Whitley, Chief Clinical Officer at mydentist, commented: “One of the biggest barriers you can face as a self-employed clinician is feeling isolated – that’s why I’m so proud to launch Know the Drill, our new podcast at mydentist, in which we’re able to draw on knowledge and insights from our Clinical Development Advisors and brilliant clinicians to support dental professionals inside and outside of our network.”

Nyree concluded: “We know that one of the best ways we can achieve greater work and gain increased job satisfaction is through supporting each other, and as clinicians it can be difficult to navigate some of the challenges that are thrown your way. We’ve been working to understand these challenges and provide peer-to-peer advice to those within the mydentist network through our Clinical Advisory Board, and I’m hopeful that our new podcast will provide welcome insights to clinicians looking for some extra support – whether they’re newly qualified or experienced and looking to extend their network.”
