In November last year, the BrightBites programme reached the fantastic milestone of delivering oral health education sessions to more than 30,000 children. Now, the oral health education programme from leading dental payment plan provider Denplan and Dentaid The Dental Charity has doubled the number of sessions delivered, reaching more than 60,000 school children across the country.

Targeting education settings including schools, nurseries and after-school clubs, BrightBites volunteers deliver in-person fun and interactive sessions to educate and inform children about oral health.

To help children continue their positive oral health journey, at the end of a BrightBites session, each child is given a toothbrush and toothpaste to take back home. This is an important facet of the programme’s prevention aims, with some families unable to afford oral hygiene products.

This latest milestone has only been possible thanks to the efforts of over 360 volunteers, who have delivered BrightBites oral health education sessions in education settings across the UK. But more volunteers are needed to help BrightBites in its mission to deliver oral health education to at least 90,000 children. Education settings are also invited to register to host a BrightBites session.

No dental qualifications or expertise are required to volunteer for BrightBites, and all materials and training are provided.
