A good team is the bedrock of every successful dental practice. For a team to become and remain strong, they need effective leadership.
This will be a hot topic at BDIA Dental Showcase 2025, allowing principals and team members to gain fresh ideas for their own practices. Among the highly-esteemed speakers to explore the subject will be Mhari Coxon, who is also a member of the event’s Advisory Board designed to ensure all education is relevant to the profession.
Mhari will present “Being a leader for your team to grow your practice” in the Business Theatre on Saturday 15th March at BDIA Dental Showcase. She discusses why leadership and team management is so challenging today and how she hopes to help colleagues enhance this aspect during her session:
“The challenge for dental leaders today is that their training is focused on clinical skills, not soft skills. Add in all the hats they need to wear when they buy a practice and there is very little time left to build leadership skills. However, investing time in this skill in order to really lead the team, delivers results. It grows the business. As such, making time for growing leadership skills is a must.
“It is also important to find and utilise a strong practice manager. Building leadership into their development plan, alongside their clinical and other career aspirations, is essential. In addition, building a culture of autonomy, transparency and feedback is key to delivering a great service and retaining staff. In summary, it is vital to be authentic, be respectful and be present for your team.
“My session at BDIA Dental Showcase will deliver a roadmap to developing a leadership plan for individuals to become the leader they deserve to be. It will also provide some plug in and play tips for making a difference on Monday morning back in clinic with the team.
“BDIA Dental Showcase has been a staple for my own development for 30 years. It is exactly what it says it is.
