Community Dental Services CIC (CDS) has delivered a talk at a Norfolk Dental Summit to highlight the oral health prevention programmes it offers in the region.

The Dental Summit, organised by Healthwatch Norfolk, was initiated in response to a project they had conducted which sought feedback from Norfolk residents regarding their experiences with dental care.

The public event raised awareness of the key prevention programmes being implemented across Norfolk and Waveney and shared the ICB’s plans for dentistry; contracts; commissioning; and access for residents.

Amanda Turner, Oral Health Improvement Manager in CDS Norfolk & Waveney; invited by Norfolk County Council, spoke about CDS’s oral health initiatives in the region: “Our service focuses on promoting key messages and actively engaging with our communities to improve the oral health of people in Norfolk and Waveney. The Dental Summit was an ideal opportunity to share information on CDS’s Supervised Toothbrushing programme, a key intervention in child oral health. We also shared the training we offer to health and social care colleagues to upskill their workforce in preventative advice. Our goal is to engage with communities in a bid to reduce the incidences of tooth decay in young people and ensure equitable dental care for the vulnerable and those in areas of greater need.”

Other notable speakers at the event included the Head of ICB, Chair of Norfolk LDC, and Commissioned Oral Health Improvement.
