Dr Natalie Elliott from Quay Dental Surgery discusses her experience of using Kiroku, the digital note taking platform, and the difference it has made to her note taking and document writing workflows:

At every CPD day that I have been to, I’ve been advised to add extra aspects to my note taking template. When you do two CPD events per year over the course of your training, that’s a considerable amount of information that you have to keep adding to your notes.

It got to a point that I had so much in my notes that it was just a massive reem of templates. Because of this, thigs were getting missed, and it would take me an age to read through after every appointment.

I saw Kiroku advertised with a free trial, and I decided to give it a go. I have not looked back since! My notes are so much better laid out, and I love the way that they’re formatted at the end. My dental nurses adore it, they think it’s brilliant and they’re recommending it to other dentists that they work with.

I think the most important point for me is that it has saved so much time, and the workflow is a nice reminder that you need to go through each and every question. For example, I hadn’t asked some of my patients for a while what type of toothbrush they were using – whether that’s a manual or electric toothbrush. The templates act as a really good reminder.

The biggest change for us as a practice is the workflow. So, not only have I got more time, but Kiroku means that I can now go through the appointment with my patient in a decent amount of time, rather than having to cut it short to write my notes. It also allows me to send a document through to the patient after seeing them.

So, with the estimate that we’ve created, we send through a Kiroku Doc, or copy it across from the AI feature (which can also be used to create patient letters). This means that the patient has a lot more information available to them, and it acts as a reminder in case they forget the points raised during the appointment. It has been a real game changer for us and we combine it with sending an intraoral scan as well. Patients have said how useful it is to have those three things sent to them together. That’s because they’re not just being sent an estimate for an ‘unknown’ dental issue – they’re getting the estimate, the document, and the scan so they can look at all of them and decide on treatment.

Kiroku has been so helpful, especially with bigger treatment plans, by allowing us to send the document through to the patient, giving them time to think about things and ask questions they have. I’d recommend it 100 times over. It has saved me so much time and my notes are in such a beautiful format, and are so structured, which is something that I was missing with my previous templates.

I was actually working with a locum the other day who used Kiroku while she was here, and by the end of the day she absolutely loved it. It only took her 1-2 patients to get her head around the workflow – it is so easy to use.

Definitely recommend!
