The Oral Health Improvement team from leading community dental services provider CDS CIC, winners of The Dental Awards 2024’s National Smile Month Award, sponsored by the Oral Health Foundation, are thrilled that a children’s poster created as part of their award-winning activities has been distributed to over 400 children’s settings in Lincolnshire.

Covering Essex, Lincolnshire, Norfolk & Waveney, Nottinghamshire and Oxfordshire, the Oral Health Improvement team received the award for a programme of events and initiatives during National Smile Month 2023, which empowered people to take control of their oral health to enhance lives and general health.

One high-profile element of the award-winning programme was a children’s poster competition run in collaboration with Lincolnshire County Council and supported by the RAF Red Arrows as competition judges. The winner of the best design met members of the RAF Red Arrows team who awarded them with their prize. The winning poster has now been professionally reproduced and shared across all 391 Lincolnshire primary schools, Lincolnshire children’s centres, family hubs and clinics. Designed by children, it will inform and enable children to take charge of their own oral health.

Jennifier Baitup, Strategic Oral Health Lead, was delighted with the award success. “With increasing numbers of children experiencing dental decay by the age of 5, National Smile Month 2023 shone a light on the importance of establishing good oral health behaviours at an early age. This is a fantastic campaign which CDS supports every year, I am incredibly proud our team has won The National Smile Month Award in The Dental Awards 2024. We had great engagement at face-to-face events, competitions and training sessions which means our key oral health messages were, and continue to be, shared far and wide. We were honoured to have the RAF Red Arrows support us with the poster competition and are thrilled to roll the winning poster, “Brush your teeth, Love your smile”, out to all Lincolnshire primary schools.”

CDS’s Oral Health Improvement Team will receive their award trophy at a winners’ reception held in The Ivy, London in July.
