Since it was founded by several of the current Board members, Rodericks Dental has maintained its ethos for delivering high-quality patient care. Having developed a reputation for clinical excellence and ethical dentistry, the group has grown from strength to strength over the past couple of decades and has now surpassed 100 practices.

With these strong foundations in place and to lead the next stage of growth for Rodericks, Shalin Mehra has now moved to the position of Chairman. As such, we are delighted to welcome Jonathan Gardner as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

A healthcare background

Jonathan brings a wealth of experience in leading and supporting healthcare businesses. Over the last 30 years, he has performed various roles within one of the most trusted healthcare providers in the UK – Boots The Chemist. He is also a qualified pharmacist and understands the importance of patient-centred care, clinicians and of clinical excellence in delivering patient care.

“I started with Boots when I was 16, working on a healthcare counter,” says Jonathan. “I went on to work in numerous positions, giving me a strong grounding of customers, patients, clinicians and colleagues. During this time, I studied pharmacy at the University of Nottingham and later completed my MBA. My roles included multi-site management, creating the Boots travel format and directing stores in London and then the West of the UK. More recently I had the opportunity to create Boots Hearingcare and to lead Boots Opticians as stand-alone healthcare services within the brand. My focus has always been on promoting professionalism, delivering high quality patient outcomes and expanding patient choice.”

What made Rodericks stand out?

When Jonathan decided to move onto pastures new, he was keen to remain within the healthcare sector.

“I looked at a number of opportunities in different areas of healthcare,” he comments. “However, one of the key factors that led me to join Rodericks was meeting Shalin. He and I have very similar values, particularly in our championing of a clinically-led ethos. I’m still a pharmacist and I understand the importance of patient-centred care, professional roles in clinical governance and patient care outcomes.

“Rodericks also stood out thanks to the very capable people already leading the business. Shalin’s expertise is renowned and highly respected across the profession, and there is a very strong executive team already in place. I believe we can leverage these values and experience in order to take this business forward and create the UK’s leading dental corporate. In addition, the company is backed by CPBE, an investor with a proven track record in healthcare. They have taken the time to really understand Rodericks and the dental profession, consequently providing long-term stability for the business, its colleagues and its patients. There is, therefore, a real opportunity to build upon what Rodericks has already achieved and provide high quality dental care to even more patients across the UK.”

Building on stable foundations

With Jonathan as CEO, Rodericks looks forward to further success in the years to come. This next stage in the group’s life is not about making drastic changes, but rather about building upon what has been achieved so far. With Shalin as Chairman and Richard Smith remaining as a Director on the Board, Jonathan will be expanding the senior management team with his own unique set of skills.

Jonathan adds:

“In the months and years to come, we can look forward to significant growth of the business. The group’s reputation for clinical excellence offers exciting opportunities to work in closer partnership and to innovate with the NHS, in addition to expanding on our private offerings. We aim to do this while tailoring our services to the unique needs of each local community around our practices.

“Rodericks is already well-positioned to provide the high-quality care and choice of treatment that patients today are demanding. My role is simply to build on the strong clinical and operational foundations already established. I am delighted to be working alongside Shalin – there really is no one better to guide me into the dental world. Together, we will be creating a long-term vision for the business in order to ensure continuity of excellent care for patients, as well as greater benefits for our valued professional teams. These already include training and education, clinical support, career development and much more – by maximising the opportunities we offer individuals, we look forward to welcoming many more people to the group as we grow. This really is an exciting time for Rodericks, and I’m honoured to help steer the next part of its journey.”
