DENTISTS’ ANNUAL RENEWAL NOW OPEN

The Annual Renewal period for UK registered dentists is now open. To renew their registration, dentists need to:

  • make their annual or end-of-cycle CPD statement
  • declare they have, or will have, appropriate indemnity in place
  • pay their Annual Retention Fee (ARF).

The ARF, which was reduced from £890 to £680 earlier this year, must be paid no later than 31 December for dentist to remain on the register and provides a non-refundable 12-month license to practise in the UK. The ARF funds the system of dental regulation in the UK, which keeps patients safe and maintains public confidence in dentistry.

The quickest and easiest way to complete the Annual Renewal is through eGDC. It can be accessed 24/7, personal details can be updated easily, and professionals can also download their annual practising certificate. It takes only five minutes to register to use the service if not already set up.

GDC Executive Director, Registration and Corporate Resources, Gurvinder Soomal, said:

“Each year we see quite large numbers of professionals leaving it very late to pay the ARF. We all know that missing the deadline will result in a break in registration, and therefore the ability to practise being interrupted. With such high stakes, I’d like to encourage dentists to complete their Annual Renewal as early as possible.”

If dentists have set up a direct debit to pay their ARF, this will be collected on 3 December and will automatically be updated to the new lower fee. When paying the fee, dentists are reminded to also declare their indemnity. For those paying their ARF by post, all forms of payment need to reach the GDC by 31 December, so carrier delivery times should be checked to ensure payments arrive on time.
