The British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD) is inviting you to its Fifteenth Annual Conference, where dental professionals will gather together to share their passion for cosmetic and aesthetic dentistry. Focusing on “The Functional Smile: Start With Why…”, the three-day event will provide fascinating insight into the latest industry techniques, research and equipment.

As ever, the BACD strives to provide the best in dental education and has organised an outstanding programme of events for this year’s Conference, which includes a variety of hands-on workshops and inspirational presentations. Each of these sessions will be spearheaded by some of the industry’s most experienced professionals and included in the line-up of world-class speakers is Dr Ulf Krueger-Janson, who will be presenting a hands-on session entitled, “Composite at its best”.

Dr Krueger-Janson has been working successfully in concept-oriented dentistry for almost 20 years, with a focus on interdisciplinary therapy and the special fields of implant prosthetics, all-ceramic restorations and the creative application of the filling material composite. Well known for authoring numerous publications – including his own workbook, “Composite 3D: Natural colour and shape” – Dr Krueger-Janson is regarded worldwide as one of the foremost experts in functional and aesthetic composite chair side techniques. He is also the Vice President of the German Society for Restorative and Regenerative Dental Retention, making him an exemplary speaker for this year’s BACD Annual Conference.

Speaking about his upcoming session, Dr Krueger-Janson says: “The purpose of my lecture is to look at new approaches for the fabrication of highly aesthetic composite restorations, using materials in a constructive and efficient way. I believe this is a topic worth exploring because composites offer practitioners an ideal means of restoring natural-looking teeth. Today’s state-of-the-art equipment and materials allow us to fulfil the patients’ demands for life-like restorations.

“One of the challenges that dentists have to overcome, however, is understanding the various properties of composite materials such as colour – an aspect of application that can be easily overlooked and can compromise the final restoration if not considered thoroughly. Once practitioners understand how to use various composite materials in the most effective way, they will be more successful with treatment in clinical practice.

“During my hands-on workshop, I will explain and demonstrate on a model how composites should be applied in layers, to ensure a good-looking restoration. To do this, I will be using a particularly reliable material from Kulzer, which will enable delegates to see what can be achieved with the best techniques.”

Dr Krueger-Janson hopes that delegates will enhance their skills and knowledge of new concepts in layering composite materials to achieve an optimal colour effect. By the end of his lecture, delegates will also learn how to reconstruct the edge of a fracture on an anterior tooth using a special matrix technique. Beyond composite layering, Dr Krueger-Janson will also look at suitable instruments for sculpting, as well as surface design and polishing procedures to attain the ideal surface texture.

He says: “The most advanced methods of composite restorations can be taught to every practitioner and my belief is that all participants at my session will be able to implement what they have learnt immediately when they return to their practice. By using relatively simple tricks-of-the-trade, they will be capable of achieving significantly better looking restorations.”

Just one of many inspiring sessions scheduled for the BACD Annual Conference, Dr Krueger-Janson’s workshop will be a true masterclass in performing supreme composite restorations – no doubt, exemplifying the Academy’s commitment to providing the very best educational opportunities to the profession. Don’t miss your chance to engage with other leading lights, including keynote speaker Dr John Kois, as well as Drs Joana Garcez, Komal Suri and Jameel Gardee.

There will also be a fantastic tradeshow, giving delegates the chance to learn more about the latest materials and equipment available on the UK market. Some of the industry’s first-class manufacturers and suppliers will be on hand to offer expert guidance and advice. Beyond this, delegates will be able to relax and socialise with friends, colleagues and likeminded individuals at the exclusive Gala Dinner.

“The Annual Conference is always well organised and sets itself apart from many other events held throughout the year,” says Dr Krueger-Janson. “I definitely recommend attending.” To discover why this event is so highly praised by global professionals, make sure you visit the BACD website today to book your ticket.
