Behind every name there is a story

With “for a smile”, SHOFU launches a new, Europe-wide brand communication campaign. It focuses on ethos, values and people.

Certain product names have been part of daily routine in dental practices and laboratories for years. They stand for familiar work steps, proven materials and experience gained by clinicians and technicians every day. These names include Brownie-Greenie, Super-Snap, CERAMAGE, BEAUTIFIL or SHOFU DISK ZR Lucent Supra. What unites them is the brand they all represent: SHOFU. And this brand is more than just a range of products. The names tell a story of evolution: innovative materials, improved procedures and increasingly digital workflows.

A story that began with teeth

When SHOFU was established in Kyoto in 1922, it all began with artificial teeth. At the time, the focus was on one particular question: How can a natural tooth be reproduced as precisely as possible? The question has not lost any of its importance to this day. What has changed is the answers – the materials, procedures and approaches used to achieve a result. Since its early days with artificial teeth, SHOFU has expanded into more fields of restorative dentistry and dental technology step by step. New materials, and digital workflows later on, have added indications and options. And so, this evolution also reflects a part of the history of restorative dentistry.

Numerous well-known names represent individual steps in this evolution. Brownie-Greenie and Super-Snap have helped dentists to finish and polish various restorative materials for years. BEAUTIFIL stands for the development of modern composites in direct restorative dentistry, and CERAMAGE for composite veneering in laboratories. Today, this expertise in materials is also incorporated in digital workflows, for instance “CERAMAGE meets digital”, or indirect restorations made with the aid of ClearForm X. The use of ceramics is also changing: VINTAGE Art Universal can be used to individually characterise both traditional layered porcelains and monolithic restorations made of zirconia, such as SHOFU DISK ZR Lucent Supra multilayer zirconia. And the evolution does not end with materials: Through the EyeSpecial C-V dental camera, professional photographic documentation in practices and laboratories has joined the areas where SHOFU is active.

The people behind the result

Products are the basis. The key factor, however, is what people make of them. A trained eye, a sense of aesthetics and functionality, and a feeling for what is right for a patient, combine various individual steps to produce a result that appears just natural.

Good materials and well-thought-out procedures can make many things easier. They provide peace of mind, save time and free up space for details that can make all the difference. And sometimes this may be exactly and simply: a treatment that succeeds. A workflow that actually works. A patient who is satisfied with the result. Perhaps even a working day that ends on time.

All this is part of “for a smile”. This idea brings together what has defined SHOFU for over 100 years: products proving reliable in everyday use, people working with them, and the common goal of achieving good results.
