Rotary nickel-titanium instrumentation has done lots to address the fundamental requirements of endodontic treatment, offering better fracture resistance and well-preserved shape better than its predecessors. However, the complexity of certain multi-file systems can actually work against the clinician, creating additional decision-making and slowing the very workflows they were intended to streamline.

COLTENE has responded to these issues introducing the HyFlex EDM OGSF Sequence – a file system designed to deliver dependably efficient performance through a single, structured protocol rather than a vats tray of instruments.

Engineered for fracture resistance

HyFlex EDM files are manufactured using Electric Discharge Machining, a process that produces a hardened surface and contributes significantly to the durability and fracture resistance for which the files are renowned. They are made from nickel-titanium alloy with Controlled Memory heat treatment (CM), meaning no need for compromise between flexibility and separation-resistance.

The CM effect also offers a practical advantage following treatment. HyFlex EDM files can be safely reused on multiple occasions, with their resetting behaviour providing complete control after autoclaving. A file that remains correctly shaped is ready for safe reuse, while one that has untwisted is simply discarded, supporting both clinical safety and efficient use of resources.

Simple and structured

Evidence indicates that the application of checklists and standard protocols improves both reproducibility and safety in clinical treatment. The HyFlex EDM OGSF Sequence offers a four-step workflow that guides the clinician through each key stage of canal preparation. The acronym represents the files used, in order: Orifice Opener, Glidepath file, Shaping file and Finishing file.

Each instrument is designed for its respective role. The Orifice Opener prepares the canal entrance and improves coronal access, the Glidepath file then establishes the glide path to working length, and the Shaping and Finishing files prepare the full length and complete the final shape.

Efficient everyday endodontics

The HyFlex EDM OGSF Sequence has been developed to provide a tailored solution for fast and reliable preparation of daily cases. Carefully matched tip sizes and tapers across the sequence allow for a smooth transition between instruments, helping clinicians maintain control throughout instrumentation while reducing unnecessary file changes.

The OGSF workflow ensures a unique combination of efficiency and predictable accuracy. This delivers treatments with reduced chair time and supports a more comfortable experience, particularly among those prone to dental anxiety.

A protocol for modern practice

The HyFlex EDM OGSF Sequence is available in multiple lengths, including 21mm, 25mm and 31mm, allowing clinicians to select instruments appropriate to the working approach and the requirements of the individual patient. The files are supplied pre-sterile and ready for immediate use, with matching paper points and gutta-percha points available to carry the case through drying and obturation.

With the expectations in modern dentistry demanding both efficiency and precision, the HyFlex EDM OGSF Sequence from COLTENE responds directly, offering a solution that integrates readily into everyday practice and supports consistently reliable results.
