For Dr Kevin Caruana, the IAS Academy Fixed Braces Course was the answer to a longstanding clinical frustration – and the results have been immediate.
“I focus mainly on dental rehabilitation, and there have been several times when I needed to move a tooth to avoid excessive preparation, or to create space for a dental implant,” he explains. “I used to refer for such cases, but I feel the result could be more fine-tuned than what we get with clear aligners, and some movements are far quicker with fixed appliances than clear aligners. Fixed orthodontics solves the problem a lot quicker and better.”
Dr Caruana found his expectations fully met. “The course was really good – very well structured, and you can tell they have thought about the clinical applications, not just passing the theory,” he says. “I feel very confident, and we have access to mentors, which makes all the difference.”
He is already planning next steps. “I will need to do Level 2 to learn how to use a reverse curve of Spee wire (I didn’t even know this existed but I’m really looking forward to it)– but I want to get proficient with what I’ve learned first.”
