The University of Lincoln has announced the appointment of Dr Richard Moore as Vice Dean and Associate Professor, where he will lead the strategic development of the University’s new Dental School and help shape the future of dental education, research, and patient care across the region. He will also hold an honorary appointment as Consultant Oral Surgeon at the United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Dr Moore brings an exceptional combination of clinical expertise, academic leadership, and educational innovation to Lincoln. A graduate of the University of Birmingham in 2002, he initially trained in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery before specialising and subsequently being appointed as a Consultant Oral Surgeon. Throughout his distinguished career, he has developed extensive experience across both primary and secondary care settings, earning a reputation as a highly respected clinician, educator, and academic leader.
Prior to joining Lincoln, Dr Moore has held academic appointments at King’s College London and most recently at the University of Leeds, where he played a significant role in the development of undergraduate and postgraduate dental education. His international experience includes an internship at the University of Illinois Chicago and collaborative work with the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, providing him with a global perspective on dental education and healthcare delivery.
Dr Moore’s academic achievements are extensive. He holds Membership and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Fellowship of the Faculty of Dental Trainers, and Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. He has recently been appointed Deputy Chair of the Tri-Collegiate Fellowship in Oral Surgery and serves on the Specialist Advisory Board for Oral Surgery and Oral Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, reflecting his standing as a national leader within the profession.
His PhD research explored the referral behaviours of general dental practitioners managing patients requiring oral surgery treatment, contributing important insights into patient pathways and access to specialist care. He has published widely within dental literature.
As Vice Dean, Dr Moore will play a pivotal role in establishing Lincoln Dental School as a centre of excellence for dental education, workforce development, and impactful research. He is particularly passionate about widening access to dental care, addressing oral health inequalities, and developing innovative educational programmes that prepare the next generation of dental professionals to meet the evolving needs of patients and communities.

Outside of academia and clinical practice, Dr Moore is an accomplished amateur musician. A trumpet player, he performs with several ensembles across Yorkshire and also undertakes freelance engagements, bringing the same passion and dedication to music that has characterised his professional career.
