The British Dental Association has responded to reports in the Health Service Journal of dental lists in Oxford University Hospitals Foundation Trust being suspended for six months to make way for cancer care.
The professional body understands significant progress on bringing down waiting times had been made in this Trust, that look set to go into reverse.
British Dental Association Chair Eddie Crouch said:
“Many dentists doing these extractions are fighting a losing battle for priority.“Yearlong waiting lists have too often been the norm here, for vulnerable young patients, many struggling to eat, to sleep and to learn.
“We shouldn’t be forced to play a zero-sum game for theatre space.”
