Practical training is the cornerstone of skill development in dentistry. BDIA Dental Showcase understands the importance of hands-on education, and will be once again presenting exclusive Clinical Workshops in March 2026. It’s an opportunity for attendees to gain first-hand experience with products to see which will transform their patient care.
Among the highly anticipated workshops will be two hosted by renowned clinicians and co-founders of Aspire Dental Academy, Dr Richard Porter and Dr Raheel Malik, supported by NSK. They will explore precision preparation techniques for anterior and posterior restorations, putting the spotlight on the equipment and materials utilised to achieve the best results.
Dr Porter offers further insight into what he hopes attendees will gain from the workshops:
“It is hard in the surgical domain to prove how much precision matters, but we know that it does. Our workshops are designed to take away some of the doubts that dentists may have about achieving exceptional restorative dentistry, improving their application of materials and handpieces for maximum control and near-perfect results every time. These are separate entities and must be treated as such for the best outcomes. The goal is always reliable, beautiful dentistry, and this can be consistently delivered with the right products and techniques, ensuring very happy and highly satisfied patients.
“Our sessions will give attendees confidence in their handpiece selection, speed, direction, and angle of movement, as well as their bur selection. We will also be celebrating colleagues’ passion for development by giving out some prizes to attendees with the best preps!”
Dr Malik comments:
“At Aspire, we’ve always believed that skill development isn’t just about repetition; it’s about understanding the why behind every movement. Dentistry is an artistic delivery of a scientific subject and true precision comes from combining technical mastery with the right mindset and posture. Our goal is for delegates to leave these workshops with genuine confidence, not only in their hand skills and control but also in their ability to slow down, execute with intent, and work with clarity. When focus, ergonomics and purpose align, your dentistry transforms.”
Friday’s hands-on workshop, “Anterior Veneer Preparation”, will offer live demonstrations and supported learning as attendees adopt ergonomic positioning to maintain control and precision with their own handpieces when implementing new skills. The focus will be on learning predictable and conservative treatment techniques for indirect restorations.
On Saturday, the practical session with Dr Porter and Dr Malik will cover “Precision in Posterior Onlay Preparation”. Evidence-based techniques will once again be shown and trialled by attendees, who will explore clinical and anatomical considerations of posterior preps, as well as the importance of excellent lab communication.
In both workshops, professionals will have the opportunity to try industry-leading equipment first-hand, which is something that Dr Porter feels is essential for learning and for clinical excellence.
“I only ever work with the best quality products,” he says, “which means I can offer genuine insights into how the equipment supports and elevates restorative workflows. In my experience, NSK handpieces are the best you can get and, therefore, the only brand I would use in practice and when teaching others.”
The opportunity for practical, hands-on training at BDIA Dental Showcase is one of the many distinguishing features of this event. It provides an opportunity for clinicians to move beyond simply learning about new skills, allowing them to truly master their craft. Dr Malik explains:
“One of the things we’ve always tried to do is bridge the gap between theory and real-world clinical execution. You can only refine your skills when you understand how to translate knowledge into action, and that happens through guided repetition and mentorship. These workshops give clinicians a chance to experience that process in a highly focused environment. It’s not about teaching one technique; it’s about teaching how to think, plan and operate with precision every single time.
“Events like BDIA Dental Showcase also bring together a community of dentists who want to be better. That energy is powerful. When you’re surrounded by people who are passionate about their craft and committed to improving, you can’t help but raise your own standards. That’s what makes this event special for us; it’s an opportunity to share what we love doing, while helping others rediscover the excitement that comes from mastering the fine details of dentistry.”
Dr Porter adds:
“This is a fabulous opportunity to access hands-on education at BDIA Dental Showcase. Workshops provide the chance to get hands-on yourself, which provides a very real, honest and authentic experience. There is time to carry out skill development and practise techniques with the support of multiple, highly experienced experts. It is also an opportunity to access some of the very best equipment in the world.
“Dentistry can be a lonely profession, with principals often having little contact with industry. BDIA Dental Showcase is a platform for new innovations and state-of-the-art technology, while also bringing together passionate people. Attending events like this is essential to realising you are not alone in dentistry, and to remind yourself that we work in a fabulous profession where we all strive to deliver excellent patient care.”
