Dr Elliott Mason received the Mark Hunter Early Careers Prize in Endodontology in 2024. The prize is supported by the British Endodontic Society’s (BES) Early Careers Group, to encourage the development of endodontic skills and knowledge amongst newly qualified dentists. It was renamed in memory of Mark Hunter, BES past president and a passionate and dedicated early careers educator. Dr Mason shares his experience of winning the prize:
“I applied for the prize as an opportunity to improve my case report writing skills whilst also giving a framework for reflection on my cases to support my development as a clinician.
“I was delighted to be awarded the prize! The money enabled me to purchase further camera equipment to better capture my clinical portfolio. It also gave me the opportunity to attend the BES Spring Scientific Meeting, where I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking to esteemed endodontists and like-minded individuals. Professionally, this has encouraged me to undergo further postgraduate training in endodontics and try to hone my endodontic skillset and become a DwSI.
“I would recommend everyone to enter for a BES prize, to support their own reflective learning and witness how the BES supports its junior clinicians.
“I would advise anyone thinking of entering to try not to worry about showing perfect cases. See it as an opportunity to show humility and reflect on areas you could improve.”
