mydentist York has been presented with Healthwatch York’s first ever special award, recognising the practice’s outstanding contribution to health and social care in the York community.

The award highlights the vital support we provide to vulnerable people in York including urgent care referrals, helping those who struggle to find NHS treatment, collaborating on group drop-in sessions with vulnerable women and supporting people facing urgent dental needs to help improve their overall mental and physical wellbeing.

After a project lasting just over six months, mydentist York officially opened the doors to its new practice in Stonebow House in June 2024, following a substantial investment of £1.5 million. The practice offers its 15,000+ patients a modern, state-of-the-art environment, a greater range of dental treatments and technology, as well as improved travel links and wheelchair and disabled access.

Charlotte Hyde, Practice Manager of mydentist York, commented: “Winning this special award is a tremendous honour and a proud moment for our practice team. It recognises our commitment to providing compassionate patient-centred care and the positive impact we strive to make in our community. This award not only validates the hard work and dedication of every member of my team but also acknowledges the fact we put the patients at the heart of everything we do.”

There are 12 surgeries within the new mydentist York practice, and the team hope for this to grow to 15 in the future, with key services offered to its patients – including NHS dental care, affordable private treatment options via the mydentist {my}options service, hygiene, and cosmetic services such as whitening, teeth straightening and mydentist smile makeover.

Sharon Letters, Clinical Director at mydentist, commented: “This is a fantastic achievement and some well-deserved recognition for mydentist York and the team for all the hard work they do within the community and delivering top quality dentistry to patients.”

Siân Balsom, Healthwatch York Manager, added: “mydentist in Stonebow has been invaluable in helping Healthwatch York help some of the most vulnerable people in York to get access to an NHS dentist. We hear too often of people going without dental care and the impact that has on their health and their lives. This service has been extraordinarily welcome for us and the people it has helped.”

The practice is well-regarded by its patients, maintaining a 4.9 star rating on Google with patients regularly praising the team for creating a friendly, welcoming environment and delivering care with empathy and warmth, with their Oral Health Area Champion, Carrie Regis, frequently accoladed for offering advice and support clearly and concisely.

Shaun Wilde, Director of Region, commented: “Congratulations to Charlotte and the team, it really is an outstanding achievement to be recognised with the Healthwatch York special award. Charlotte, our Practice Manager, has led the team brilliantly over the years and made a huge success of our new practice in York. Well done on this achievement!”

Rachael Maskell MP, York Central, concluded: “Since opening 12 months ago, mydentist has been incredible in supporting residents and vulnerable individuals in accessing an NHS dentist. Their work is invaluable, especially in light of the dental inequality across the region. They have worked alongside my office to ensure that those with the most urgent needs are able to be referred as soon as possible. This award is well deserved, and I look forward to our continued work together on tackling the lack of dental services across York.”
