Dental Protection Dental Director, Raj Rattan, has urged dental professionals to probe the root cause of any dissatisfaction with dentistry, in the latest issue of Dental Protection’s journal Riskwise.
In his “Changing places” editorial, Raj Rattan says disillusionment with the profession is complex and multi factorial but is distinct from dissatisfaction with the working environment. He warns that conflating the two may lead to disproportionate actions.
Raj Rattan commented: “The wellbeing of dental professionals remains central to successful clinical practice and safe patient care and if we feel unhappy it is important to explore why that may be. Many dentists may say that they no longer enjoy dentistry when what they really mean is that they no longer enjoy dentistry in their place of work. I cannot overstate the importance of a good working environment, and my editorial explores this further.”
The 67th issue of Riskwise also includes an exclusive panel discussion on the future of AI in dentistry with Dr Yunpeng Li of King’s College London, Sonia Szamocki of 32Co, Dr Loven Ganeswaran of Chairsyde and research from a new study on resilience to dental environment stress, funded by the MPS Foundation.
Readers will also find articles on intravenous sedation in general dental practice, consent, Dental Protection’s work to improve the GDC investigations processes, as well as a case study on the extraction of the wrong tooth.
Raj Rattan added: “This edition of Riskwise is packed with insights designed to enhance our members’ knowledge of good practice and the changing trends within dentistry, particularly AI. In this fast-evolving field we at Dental Protection want to support dental professionals in embracing AI, while also helping them understand and mitigate any emergent dentolegal risks in relation to its use.”
