The MPS Foundation has announced that it is hosting a second symposium – “AI Safety: AI in Action” – to explore real-world use of AI in healthcare to enhance patient care and reduce risk, while explaining the some of the practical, ethical, and legal challenges that need to be considered with its use.
Speakers at the online event on 29 May 2025 will discuss how AI could improve the patient consent process, be used to identify periodontal disease, and support healthcare professionals to record their consultations.
The speakers include:
- Dr Jasmine Loke – a registered specialist in Periodontology. During her specialist training, Jasmine developed a passion for dental technology and was awarded a Hong Kong Government grant to advance AI research in dentistry. She collaborated with machine learning engineers to develop an AI model for detecting bone levels, furcation defects, and root morphologies on two-dimensional dental X-rays.
- Dr Jagdeesh Singh Dhaliwal – a Melbourne-based GP with a special interest in aged care, digital health, and medical education. A Medical Director at Alternaleaf, Honorary Senior Lecturer at Monash Medical School, and a Research Translation Fellow at Trophi.org.au, leading research on AI transcription in aged care.
- Sara Memon – an ophthalmology trainee with a strong foundation in research, which she began during her medical training at UCL. She has held an honorary research fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital. As the founder of the Pakistani Association of Medical Students and Academics, Sara has been deeply involved in tackling health inequalities. Her current research explores the use of AI to streamline the cataract surgery consent process, ensuring accessibility for both English and Bengali-speaking patients.
- Dr Ernest Lim – Ernest leads Ufonia’s Science team, co-ordinating research on clinical, regulatory and safety aspects of Ufonia’s Artificial Clinical Intelligence. He is an NHS ophthalmic surgeon and a computer science PhD candidate at the Institute for Safe Autonomy at the University of York. He has previously completed the Value-Based Healthcare Intensive Seminar at the Harvard Business School, and is currently an NHS Clinical Entrepreneur. He leads a module on automation on the UCL Bioscience Entrepreneurship MSc, and is an accredited clinical safety officer.
