Best Outreach or Charity Initiative

Winner: Edinburgh Community Food and LINKnet Mentoring

An outreach initiative that has really made a difference to a community. The judges felt that the initiative will have undoubtedly made beneficial changes to this community and the population’s oral health.

Website and Digital Campaign of the Year

Winner: ODL Dental Clinic

All of the criteria has been met with all the boxes ticked, and some! The judges enjoyed the site’s friendly feel, which offers plenty of oral health education alongside treatment options to assist with treatment acceptance. With no jargon to complicate the patient journey, there is plenty of clear information about treatments and what to expect.  There is a friendly confidence across the whole site which should be recognised and awarded.

National Smile Month Award – in association with the Oral Health Foundation

Winner: NHS Ayrshire & Arran Oral Health Improvement Team

The judges wished to applaud all applicants this year.  Everyone went above and beyond with creative ideas, competitions and events. The NHS Ayrshire & Arran Oral Health Improvement Team displayed how to effectively reach the entirety of a population, increasing dental attendance and improving oral health. There were no obstacles, with the team reaching everyone via children’s play areas, supermarkets, GP surgeries, care homes, prison, libraries and their own workplace. They created opportunities to deliver key messages to the widest and largest possible audience.

Front of House/Receptionist Award

Winner: Claire Smith, Community Dental Services CIC (CDS)

Claire should be so proud. The judges were impressed by her truly admirable dedication to patients and constant drive to improve their experience and go above and beyond. Outstanding.

Team of the Year

Winner: ODL Dental Clinic

The judges were blown away by a fantastic set of entries in this category, which displayed a huge range of exciting and innovative approaches to patient care, particularly the extent to which teams are giving to their communities beyond dentistry.

ODL Dental Clinic was the clear winner, however, with a very strong entry entirely focused on the team and how it excels. A thorough and well-presented entry, highlighting its multicultural benefits in providing appointments/literature in a number of languages, clear patient pathways involving multiple team members, good leadership with focus on team empowerment and staff retention.

Practice Manager of the Year – in association with ADAM

Winner: Nicola Bushell, Community Dental Services CIC Essex

Dental Nurse of the Year – in association with BADN

Winner: Mihaela Marian, Ten Dental + Facial

Mihaela is described by the judges as a breath of fresh air. She displays dedication to oral health and dentistry through providing support and mentorship to trainee dental nurses. Her dedication to diversity is admirable and it is clear that she is a terrific team player.

Dental Hygienist of the Year – in association with BSDHT

Natalie represents a hardworking dental hygienist who gives up her time to support the profession. In the words of the judges: “This should be celebrated. Very well done!”

The judges noted that Emily’s entry demonstrates a professional who goes above and beyond for both her patients and her peers.

Young Dentist of the Year

Winner: Simran Bains, Rock Dental Practice

Simran had a very strong entry with judges explaining that she is progressing sensibly in her profession and has a very promising future career. “She’s learning to bake the cake before icing it. It’s great to see a young dentist getting to learn about the pillars of oral healthcare before embarking on cosmetic dentistry.”

Dentist of the Year

Winner: Dr Martina Hodgson, The Dental Architect

Dr Hodgson has demonstrated her commitment to enhancing patient experience and the outcome of care while maintaining her professional standards through the provision of evidence-based, high-quality dental care. Her commitment to delivering patient-centred care is evident.

The judges said it was clear that Martina runs a practice that is dedicated to make a difference to her patients’ lives as well as to her team’s professional development. Martina has made sure she also gives back to the professional community by mentoring and educating colleagues.

Familiar with ODL from previous awards entries, the judges noted that the practice continues to serve as an exceptional clinic with a clear team focus resulting in the best care for their patients. The judges added that the Practice of the Year category featured an excellent level of submissions with teams clearly very dedicated to what they do both for their patients and the wider community.
