From practice managers to dental nurses, dental technicians to dentists, and dental therapists to dental hygienists, the dental team must collaborate closely when dealing with complex cases.
To bring the whole team together, the ADI Team Congress 2025 offers three days of fantastic lectures, fun social events and rewarding networking opportunities, letting all dental professionals share their passion for implantology. The scope of the event guarantees an enriching experience for all, with an abundance of informative talks available.
For dentists looking to enhance the way they approach complex cases, Dr Stavros Pelekanos, founder of AthenaSmile Pelekanos, a prestigious dental clinic in Greece, can help. To Stavros, simplifying complex cases and treatment planning is vital for long-lasting restorative results. At the ADI Team Congress 2025, he will be presenting a talk on his process, saying:
“I will be presenting a talk that will be looking at the full mouth implant rehabilitation, from FP1 to FP3 cases. We will discuss the restorations in the upper and lower jaw and how to design the big, complex cases, be that edentulous patients or those with terminal dentition who need extractions prior to restoration.
“The goal is to show delegates how to plan advanced cases. I will analyse the workflow step-by-step to provide a thorough understanding, starting with a face down and then taking pictures and registering the movement of the lower jaw. When the patient is happy with the initial diagnosis and treatment plan then we can continue with the 3D smile design and printing. The aim is to conclude each plan with a final design that can be shared with the patient on day one. This sets expectations and ensures you plan accurately in advance for optimal efficiency.”
In complex cases, communication and teamwork are also pivotal. Stavros notes how their importance has only grown in recent years:
“Some of the main challenges that practitioners face are due to the physical workflow. The big change in the last few years is that the dentist is more specialised; one person no longer does it all. In order to design a case and make it successful you need to collaborate with a team. There could be five or six people involved in a case: the dentist, the oral surgeon, the prosthodontist, the technician, someone to do the milling and printing. Teamwork and communication are absolutely essential for this and the ADI Team Congress is a great place to support this.”
Teamwork between the dental team is also a crucial value for Kash Qureshi, a clinical dental technician based at the Swissedent Denture Clinic in London. As part of the Dental Nurses and Managers Programme, Kash will lead a talk entitled “50 Shades of White.” He sets the scene:
“The human eye can identify up to 10,000 colours but everyone sees things differently. My talk is about shades during restorations; taking shades and universally communicating colour to mimic what’s in the mouth. Getting the correct shade match to the lab gives the technicians more information to utilise so that the implant best meets the patient’s aesthetic expectations. Close collaboration is vital.
“I hope attendees of the talk gain a better understanding of colour and how to take shades, including for edentulous patients. For dental nurses, learning this skill builds their value up so that they can take the shades quickly and become a greater part of the process. Events like the ADI Team Congress provide excellent opportunities for dental nurses to pick up new skills. For the whole dental team, coming together and talking about implants is how ensure the future is in good hands.”
As well as highlighting the numerous ways dental professionals can enhance the treatments they deliver, the ADI Team Congress will also showcase why communication with dental technicians is so important. Alina Ceclan, a ceramist at Q Lab, London, and a speaker on the Technicians Programme, identifies the value of communication:
“Communication between dentists and technicians is the secret ingredient in long-lasting dentistry. When we collaborate closely, we unlock the potential for stunning results that exceed the patient’s expectations. We should always be looking for ways to enhance the strong partnership between the lab and the dental practice and embrace a new era of excellence in restorative dentistry.”
