BDIA Dental Showcase is delighted to announce Professor Tim Newton as a speaker at the upcoming event. Acting in his role as an Honorary Consultant Adviser to the Office of the Chief Dental Officer, Tim shares an insight into what delegates can expect from his session:
“Communicating with patients is a core skill for all healthcare practitioners. I will explore the key components of good communication, starting with the foundations of Trust, Empathy and Partnership, then building on these to suggest how these values are portrayed in the way that we interact with each other – not just person-to-person but in every step of the patient journey.
“Communication has always been central to healthcare, though often undervalued. It has been brought into focus by falling levels of trust in our healthcare systems and an increasing degree of consumerism in public interactions with healthcare providers. Challenges of communication are a common source of complaints from patients. I hope that attendees of my session will better understand the challenge of changing our own behaviour, and take away a willingness to reflect on and consider their own communication.
“The event is a fantastic showcase for all that is good, fascinating and exciting in dentistry today.”
